I am with Mulan on this, Starbucks seems to be the place of choice these days ( based on my 12 year old daughter and her friends preference). I also like to go there and hang out with wife or kids when we have the time.

We live in a small suburb on the north shore of Long Island ( Huntington) which has a small commercial downtown center where one can park the car and bar hop all nite. When my wife and I are up to it, we have our 12 year old baby sit the smaller ones and we meet some friends for an evening of bar hopping. We have done so much of it in our college days that we are pros. Drinking and driving is a concern these days and although home is a 5 minute car drive, one still has to be careful.

    I go to Sassy's house!

Actually, the guys at work have introduced me to "The Hacienda"....they like to go there Sunday nights. I've been there two times now and its low key and good booze, great service.

Sassy, a good place to eat is Miguel's and we've been there together!!!!!! We'll have to go again, without kids and guys tho!

Hubby and I like Olive Garden - it is close to our house and they have a really nice lounge that is usually pretty empty. It's quiet - nice atmosphere - and we get good service. Good place to visit and hang out.

My boyfriend tends to like "watering holes" more than I do..........I prefer to drink at home and enjoy some weed at the same time............once in a while we'll head to a little, dimly lit place near us called "SawMill" where you can also order some good grub. There's also a sports bar we go to once in a while named "Rookies". It's a little too noisy and crowded most of the time, that's why we like SawMill. Then, one town over, there's a little place called Farmington Rest. that we go to.

Wine & Roses in Yucca Valley, CA. Good drink prices, a live band that plays classic rock and despite California?s no smoking policy, allows a good cigar to go with that drink.......

Really? Hey Mulan, I've seen "Cheers" a few times!

And what about that place everyone hangs out at in "Friends"?

Okay, I concede. The place on Friends is a coffee shop though. Maybe I've just always had kids to take care of, and little money to spend like that, so we never went outside the house for socializing..................or to another person's house. (I DID mention Starbucks...........but it's pretty pricey for going regularly).

    Starbucks???? The Olive Garden????

Sorry fellow Americans, but I'm with the Englishman on this one. We don't call it a local here but call it a corner bar or a watering hole. I have a couple favorites in my town and all my Ex Dub friends have their own favorites and we make a circut between them. I work at a Casino Bar too and I have all my regular customers (like cheers) and friends there too. My favorite bar has an open mic night and it's fun to have a few and either enjoy or make fun of the new talent.

The closest thing I have to a "local" is a fake English pub called The Governer's Inn, situated within my local club. I was going there for the trivia nights, but I've packed that in. I find it particularly interesting that this "authentic Old English Pub" doesn't have a single English beer on tap. (You can get Boddingtons in a can, but it's hardly the same)
