I enjoy nice pop, disco, rap and hip-hop, hard rock, heavy metal, and even those sun-worship songs I used to dread while I was a believing witless. Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson (both had some of the best selling albums of all time, by the way), Def Leppard, David Bowie, Billy Idol, and yes, those soundtracks that the jokehovians hated so much (like Saturday Night Fever).

And many of those were albums I was not supposed to listen to at all, played at work where I used to work then. They often brought in a tape boom box with a tape (or more than one tape), and played them at work. Def Leppard Hysteria, Guns & Roses Appetite for Destruction, and Aerosmith Permanent Vacation were among the most played tapes then, and those albums had big selling singles and were big on the charts for a good reason (unlike these days, where albums and songs go big on the charts based mostly on paid plays, not on sales or merit as in those days).

And yes, I still like older rock. Boston's first album is good. I also like Styx The Grand Illusion, Eagles Hotel California, Fleetwood Mac Rumours, and the disco smash Saturday Night Fever. And of course, Led Zeppelin IV, which was one of the best all time records by quality. That record had the hit Stairway to Heaven, which was so good that they refused to ruin it by shortening it to fit a 7" record. The record ran 8 minutes and could not be cut to under 7 minutes without ruining it, so they didn't release it as a single at all. And all the better, since the whole album is a masterpiece.

Been listening to a lot of Miranda Lambert today. I'm not a big Country fan, but there's something about her style and her often witty lyrics that keeps me coming back.

She's also in a side project called the Pistol Annies who are definitely worth checking out.

    I listen to

Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 everyday. The second movement might remind you of a popular song. Here's him playing it and Ashkenazy as well.
