I would say: go get drunk put on your latex suit and then go to the kingdom hall to say that you quit their religion

    HS,

Ya, Robert was one of a kind. Playing with him on his threads was like playing hackie-sak with a dirty bomb wrapped in silly putty.

As the old TV commercials says, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    Take care yourself,

    Dave

I know very few people ( excepting Scholar and You Know and of course Theo Jaracz whom I know has read all these tomes ) who have read this book and not left the Organization.

This is what has always blown me away. That a person can CLEARLY see the faults and non-validity of this Organisation.....and STILL pursue it......especially a member of the GB. Do they read what we read and not see it......or do they see and not give a rats ass? If they do the latter..........they would have to be sick puppies in my book.

I can see a person FORCED to play the part so as not to lose loved ones they cannot bear to lose, .....but to willfully stay besides that reason, AFTER you realise the organisation is false, has got to be a sickness.

I think Jaracz stayed because he had the power...you don't want to leave if you're on top.

    Great question Min!

I would ask any active JW's to take a good look at their "time slip". Just what are you expected to do in this religion? None of the things on that slip are mentioned in the Bible. Even Bible studies are not really Bible studies. You have to study out of the WTS books! If you conducted a Bible study just with a Bible the person would never qualify to get baptized. Where are the activities that are mentioned in the Bible? Like looking after widows and fatherless boys? Acts of kindness? Are they not sacred service? Why is it only things related to the publishing company regarded as sacred service?

The "time slip" says it all! Maverick

How to get out for lurkers...

Here, we're assuming you want get out...you've made your decision to undedicate yourself to the Organization.

The fade is a classic, especially if you have few/no family ties. also try it if you have at least a good network of "worldly" friends and relatives. These "Bad associations" are especially villified by the WTS because, after all, when you leave, you're supposed to be alone and miserable, not supported by others.

slowly cut ties with those in the cong...many JW's have business relations with others, being warned on one hand and enouraged on the other by WT literature. If your cash flow is dependent on an elder, look for a better opportunity (a reason they hate college...elders own cleaning services and uncertified repair shops, not large businesses and School districts). Then, build your "worldly" network.

If you have a heavy family web, don't fade, IMHO...but work on untangling the financial cords, if present. wait for a situation that will give you an out (personal dispute with an elder/elderette) is a good way to go. You can at least shore up some good family sympathy and get some justification for leaving.

I have often thought of lurkers coming to this board and how we could reach them. This post has been viewed 415 times. How many are lurkers? How could we determine the number and give them an opportunity to indicate their prescence.?

I believe we should not address them as a third party. We all need to welcome them more. We need to address them as fellow human beings.

For one thing I do not like the term lurkers, it sounds somewhat derogatory, as if they are animals prowling in the shadows while others sit around a warm campfire.

I believe we could give lurkers a silent method to indicate their prescence by doing this: Three posts are posted on the board one after another. The first post gives the instructions as to what is going on. It directs the lurkers to go to the second post. Non-lurkers, those signed up to this board are instructed to go to the third post. The second post has a message to "lurkers" for want of a more appropriate name. Only lurkers are directed to go to the second post. If they want to click the reply button, they could sign up. If not, their prescence is indicated by the number of viewers to the second post. The third post has the same message as the second post , but this post is for participants on this board, those who are not lurkers. Replies could be made to ths post by members of this board.

If someone makes a mistake and clicks on the wrong post all he would have to do is go to the other post and click on it twice to cancel his mistake.

I am sure lurkers themselves would like to know how many non members are reading this board.

There may be simpler methods to find out. Maybe Simon knows.

    Any feedback?

I think this thread is wonderful. If we can help people by getting them to see HOW, WHEN, and WHY JWs plant seeds of (mis)information, we might be able to help them kindly see that they are being duped. Many years ago, I read COC and then when ISOCF came out, I read that, too. Franz' words stayed with me for years before I finally stopped attending. Not everyone, after reading these types of books can just leave. There's so much holding you back, whether it be family, friends, the cultic hold, etc. that it's not that easy to jump ship. That's why I feel you NEED new friends. If you don't cultivate other friendships BEFORE you leave, you will feel ostracized and distraught. The Watchtower sees to it that you feel isolated and then condemns you for your "own selfish longing"! For all of us who have been 'LURKERS' (and no, I don't feel this is derogatory) it takes time. Do the best you can. Everything will work out if you stay openmindeed.

I wonder how many LURKERS cry themselves to sleep every night.Knowing that they don't have 'the truth' that they been 'lied to'.Some may be to old to make the break and get out, feelings of loneliness sink in,depression, loss of direction,no finances,no relatives or real friends to assist them.etc.

This is where we can and are helping them. Many on this board have been in that same situation and have found help right here on this board and have told their stories for others to know that they are not alone.

All the suggestions posted so far are very good tips for helping Lurkers to get out.

I have nothing to say that has not been said already, except, "It's better out here."
