Is there a source for the Branch Rep's statement? I'd love to show the double-speak to my wife.

This is a story with so many tragic angles.

Of note, the organization's own public response was to say that it is up to each individual's conscience and there'd be no negative repercussions in the congregation if she were given blood.

So, effectively, her parents could have backed right off after the medical authorities insisted on using blood. Then their daughter's chance of survival would have significantly increased and there'd be no organizational repercussions for her parents.

    Oh, and she'd be alive!

cookiemaster - "...He confronted the branch guy about his statement and the branch guy replied 'What, did you expect me to tell the truth to the media?'..."

    Hoo, boy.

One again, for the newbies, lurkers, and trolls...

...if you have to cheat to defend your beliefs, your beliefs don't deserve to be defended.

I gotta say, though, when you get to the point where you're actively lying to outsiders -- even though they can confirm for themselves with virtually zero effort that you're doing it -- you've taken the dishonesty to a whole new level.

At least Covington and Fred Franz had the balls to admit their fascist views when they were questioned.

The Borganization's comment about it's each individuals' choice whether or not to accept blood is awefully hypocritical, extremely hypocritical!!!!

Crazyguy - Here's a link to a very, very bad English translation, but I think you can make out the main stuff: http://www.jwblood.org/19yo-woman-whose-family-refused-blood-transfusions-for-religious-reasons-died-in-hospital/
Sadly, this is the only thing I could find in English about this event. Maybe you want to show the news reports to someone, but sadly, I can't find them in English.

Sadly, I can't find the statement of the branch representative online. But the guys says that it really happened. Really shook his faith. Probably it was given to one of the small local papers that don't get as much coverage. With hundreds of Romanian websites telling this story at the moment, I can't seem to find it. But it wouldn't surprise me to be true as it is their official position in the neighboring country of Bulgaria.

It was one of the conditions for the religion to become legal in the country. You can find proof of that and the whole story in JW Facts. So, they have declared this publicly before almost 20 years ago. Of course, JWs in Bulgaria know it isn't true, as anyone having a transfusion will suffer the known consequences. It just goes to show how hypocritical they are.

At least this girl's death wasn't totally in vain and it managed to turn the entire public's opinion against JWs in this country. Now, most people are seeing them as a super dangerous cult that kills people. This infamy will make it very hard for them to get any converts. I wonder how long before they'll drop this evil doctrine.

It's absolutely unbelievable. The professional medics should be allowed to do what is absolutely needed to save life. Note: one elder in our hall several months ago asked if I could give him my no blood card. The elders are aware I have issues with the no blood policy. As it happened, I had one just filled in to appease the elders and it was ' in my bag'. He said he needed to photocopy it for his records?? I felt he was just checking up on me.

cognac. I am convinced they are keeping a close eye on me. The CO is a smart man. He is also a GB worshipper like most of the elders in my hall. Intuitively he knows I disagree with WT teachings, but has the good sense not to rock the boat. I think they were checking to see if I had filled in the card shortly after they gave them out. A loyalty spot check I guess. I have never ever been asked in the past to have my blood card photo copied. As it turned out he said the photocopier wasn't working at the back of the KH and handed it back to me!!
