Well, my guess is that some of the "sisters" that engaged in such manipulative behavior may have done so out of resentment due to being in such a misogynistic organization.
I think the bible has been used by both men and women equally in power, yet in different ways, to control and manipulate people.- BLISSISIGNORANCE
The reason why I bring this issue up is because of my wife, even though my wife was and "Elders" wife with all its "Priviledges" this was one sticking point with her _ How females are viewed in relationship to men Even a 13yr baptized male is given more respect than a 45yr exp in life female due to the concept of men are over women
Women and men have never had an equal footing in the JWs. And while there may have been some female on male control/manipulation, it was, IMO mostly going on "behind closed doors".
The main control/manipulation was of men over women (let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence) and it was well out in the open.
But I do agree that manipulating/controling people can come from both sexes.
Yes, that's true but regular women don't have elders to go to. They don't run to men in authority and risk the other person being kicked out of their community for oral sex/watching porn/listening to questionable music/getting drunk/ looking up forums like this on the net etc.
I'm not saying the scenarios are unique, just that some will use anything they can to control and the dubs use the scripture, often inconsistantly, for that control.
Like working hard to look nice and slim at meetings while on the hunt for a mate, then once married letting themselves go.
Using sex as a bargaining tool.
Reporting the husband if he wanted some wierd sex, like oral!!!!!!!!!!!
Expecting him to work hard while she put Jehovah first and did 2 hours witnessing then sat in front of the TV the rest of the day.
etc, etc.
With the exception of a wife putting Jehovah first or going to the elders over something, I fail to see how these very human behaviors are based on manipulating scripture.
Men "let them selves go" as well, so this is not a gender thing. Men can also use sex as a bargaining tool. Ask my daughter. Her husband is not a JW. She is not a JW. I have heard of men reporting their wives to the elders for asking for banned sex practices. I also knew men, a lot more of them than women, who sat on their butts, when not at work, watching TV.
Like it's been said and I agree, in the org the scriptures do not weigh in the favor of women at all.
Manipulative behavior is a human thing, not a gender thing. No one sex has the market cornered on manipulation.
