At one time, in my past life, we had about a $3,000 credit card bill.

You're not trying hard enough...I have that much....and a bit more...and my wife racked up twice as much as I have...(she no longer has a credit card). We're at about 12,000 in credit card debt, or were. I took out a signature loan at the bank...cheaper in the long run...

I'm getting rid of one card that I got while my credit rating was a bit poor. Downside was I had to pay a £39 annual charge, but at least I could work on getting my rating back up after a bad spell.

Problem is, I noticed recently that they no longer charge the annual fee on any of their cards. I thought i'd ask and see if I still had to pay fees. Yup, and I can't even get them to no longer charge me it unless I pay off the balance and close the account and open an new one. Nice little scam there imo. Probably a lot of others who can't afford to pay off the whole balance and are going to get stung £39 each year that no-one else has to pay.

Are we talking Capital One here?

Don't touch 'em with a barge pole! You can send your cheque a week in advance of the due date and they will still claim that you paid them late and charge you an extra 20 quid.

Incidently, Number 1 son has closed his account with HSBC because they are making the UK employees redundant whilst transferring their phone accounts to India.

    Englishman,

    Yup that's the fools alright.

I prefer my Barclaycard. I can pay online using a debit card and it usually goes through 1-2 days later, even at weekends.
