Since I've been raised a JW, I obviously never voted-----not even in school. Yet, I've always been very interested in politics (more than I should've been as a Witness). Some of you have been out for a long time and others have just started getting out of the religion......At this point, are you involved in politics in any way at this time of your life???

I have been voting many years & I hold a minor office in my township that I was appointed to.

I do NOT get involved in political rants, however. I personally find it offensive & it ends up bringing everyone down. It quickly disintegrates into insulting things being slung back and forth. It changes no one's mind. It starts to feel jw to me when someone tries to "educate" other people.

I love politics! I think unless someone votes, they shouldn't complain. But I keep my politics to myself :)

I always found it interesting that the WBTS would get involved in LOCAL politics but tell us, we could have nothing to do with the "world".

I am a news hound. Wherever there is news to be found, I am right there. I *adore* politics. I just have found that I have to discuss it with people who are on the same level as I am. I don't know how I got that way.. I have no clue. Could be because my NONJW father was a news hound, too. I am a very curious person, I love history, and I just keep a running idea, with a basis in history, of what is going on in the world. I prefer not to discuss it because I was always told that that was not a good thing, and I don't say right or wrong.. I just look at it, and have my own opinion. Whether you like what's going on or not, that's the facts.

    yes,

my "republican" wife and I follow National and State politics. ( Yes, I am a registered Republican and do actively vote) We are very involved in local politics and are actively involved in many local charities.

None of this would have been possible if I were still a JW.

I've been more and more interested in politics. I did volunteer at the Dean headquarters in Seattle a couple times, but I feel like local politics is more effective, more accountable to the people, and less susceptible to corruption. I've been volunteering a bit with the Seattle Monorail Project - something I really believe in and something that would have been impossible if I were still a Witness.

Locally, yes. I'm known as a sh-- disturber. I'm debating whether or not I should run as a councilorperson again this summer. In my previous try, I never solicited one vote from anyone and I was surprise to learn the amount votes I received. This year, people are already asking if I would be participating, actually, I would rather be an ombudsmen. I can accomplish more plus have more free time.

Yes, I vote and follow the political debates. I do think people should discuss the issues and that it makes a great deal of difference in the interest level in general, the level of being informed rises, and that people do, sometimes, change their mind when more and more information is presented to them.

Here's to free speech and democracy!

Good for you, SNG, last presidential election I worked the phone banks, but this time I'm torn between Dean and Clark, just can't make up my mind. Actually they are all pretty good, but those two seem the stand outs IMHO. Not living in metro Seattle we get left out of the decisions like monorail, but I hope that it doesn't get as convoluted as the light rail did. As the election draws closer and the candidates are narrowed down I will get more involved.
