So, is it the publicity, or act itself that "brings reproach on Jehovah's name"?

As we all sadly know, a common expression used by the Society and Elders in cases of abuse, or scandals, is "if you talk about this, you will bring reproach on Jehovah's name!"

This is uttered in order to deter making something known.

But really, if it is a case of abuse, is not the act itself the thing that brings "reproach on Jehovah"?

Making it known is not the problem.

Rather HIDING it, or not disclosing it to authorities is the thing that brings REPROACH!

    Thoughts?

Groundbreaking. Since God sees all things, the act itself should be regarded as the reproachful thing.

I've never thought of it like that. Good post!

The WTS knew its a crime in most countries so why not accept that and let the authorities investigate the matter and be civilly and respectively observant ?

What would the WTS do if a man murdered his wife in rage of anger and the man admitted it to his local elders ?

Would they not advise the man to turn himself into the proper authorities. ?

Reproach: n - the expression of disapproval or disappointment.

I think part of the problem is that the term is used incorrectly by the bORG. What they mean is that you're making them (or GOD- same thing?) look bad, but notice that is not what reproach means.

    for what reproach means:

It is strictly of a person's OWN doing to give an expression of disapproval or disappointment.

That is to say, a person is solely responsible for giving reproach, noone can make them do it.

    For what THEY mean:

Personally, I would say that unless you are lying about someone (slander for example) then there is nothing you can do to give someone else a bad name or make them look bad. Your actions do not reflect on an individual 3rd party (i.e. GOD) but they could be a reflection of your group (employer, family, religious group etc) but even then I think most normal people realize that every group will have one-offs - the crazy guy, the stalker nut, the drunkkard, the racist, the klepto-maniac etc etc. If there are few compared to the many, then the group's reputation will generally fare just fine. The bORG is so self-centered and self-serving though, that every. single. thing. is about the bORG, therefore any 'bad' thing you do is seen as giving the bORG a bad name. The rest is just invoking their version of the name of GOD as a reason to punish you and make you feel guilty.

    Yup.

Satan's seen the abuse happen and then the cover up so he's nudges his demon mates and says "See Jehovah's followers trying to hide it to cover their asses? I thought I was supposed to be the bad guy round here. We could take lessons from these guys in Brooklyn."

    Yes Freddo!

Isnt it funny that "Satan's world" or the "superior authorities" are the ones who are helping "Jehovah's one true organization" to sort out these abuse issue!?

Famous car Company cover ups on failures are good Examples. They cover up until the body count rises and someone files a suit.

I've always thought that it was the sinful / criminal behaviour and the measures taken to cover it up by others, particularly in the context of a family or organization that was reproachful.

Victims of any kind of abuse, whether it is domestic abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, etc. should never be restrained from seeking assistance from authorities who can help to remove them from the source of abuse, or from speaking about their experience of abuse, or from seeking out others who have similar experiences - people who understand their recovery process. Anyone who wants to silence an abuse victim is perpetuating that abuse. Anyone who expects a victim/survivor of abuse to "respect" or keep silent in order to "protect" the abuser from the consequences of their behaviour is perpetuating that abuse.

In the context of WT (and its Elders™) wanting to keep the abuse from becoming public knowledge in order to keep Jehovah™ / the Organization™ free from Reproach™, what they fail to recognize is that

    • the abuse itself is reproachful
    • the covering up of the abuse is reproachful
    • the silencing of victims of abuse is reproachful
    • the requirement to suspend belief of an allegation in favor of an abuser when there aren't two eyewitnesses to the abuse is reproachful
    • the failure to recognize their part in aiding and abetting abusers by way of flawed policy is reproachful
    • the failure to protect women and children from abusers is reproachful
    • the failure to report or assist victims/families to report abuse to the authorities is reproachful

In other words, EVERYTHING they do and believe with regard to child sexual abuse and domestic abuse is REPROACHFUL. The ENTIRETY of their patriarchy which puts women and children down and elevates males to a superior position is REPROACHFUL.

There's no baby in the bathtub, folks. Just dump the shitty water they expect you to swallow and move on.
