I am also shocked to find out he was only 76. He was old when I watched him growing up. Maybe cause it was black and white for so long they could pull it off. I will miss this gentle soul.

Captian Kangaroo, was what I grew up with, he was really a great and honorable man, as well as an american hero, not many people know that about him. He was a Marine platoon leader in the landing at Iwo Jima, and won the Navy Cross for his actions there. Him and those like him, are the reason the JW's and other pacifists can still operate openly. Our nation has a lot to thank him for.

On a different note, Mr. Rogers was also a warrior before becoming a minister and childrens advocate/teacher/entertainer, he was a Navy Seal during the Vienam War.

Thank u Seedy for telling us about his service to his country. He was an honorable man and a pioneer in childrens programing. It was a kinder gentler time. I vividly remember watching him and Romper Room, and American Bandstand. And the Mickey Mouse Club. (the original one) Who will usher in the New Year if we lose Dick? Imagine trying to fill those shoes.Icons of my generation. Good people.
