Palm trees are growing in Quebec.
If only...
Freezing here today,it hurts to breathe......
50 cm / 20 inches in the ground here so far, and we are expecting another 10-15cm / 5-6 inches today. This has to the coldest and snowiest January in recent memory. Where the hell is that global warming they are talking about?
We stopped for a day with some of my parents friends in Fuquay-Varina
Fuquay Varina, checking in. I hate this crap! I live at the bottom of a steep hill and am stuck at home again. I'm hoping it will warm up enough to clear the roads a bit, but I doubt that will happen since they are calling for .25 inch of ice today.
Make that freezing rain. Which is even worse since that is what cuts the power here.
Good Morning Xandria.. At least its morning where I am... 11:55 am.
Now I hear, North Carolina has issued a state of emergency because of the snow and ice and road conditions. something like 2000 car accidents (I could be way off on that.. sounds ridiculously high)
Can you confirm this...state of emergency?

Horrible about the fire.. alot on young people dead.. unnecessarily,..sad, very sad. At least sprinklers would have given them a chance.. I wonder where the smoke detectors were and why weren't they all going off.. I suspect, there will be a major investigation in to this one...
all the best this cold day

Here in Charlotte we had two real bad accidents that killed four people and hospitalized the others.
The N.C. Department of Transportation to close the four intersections even sooner because of Sunday's wreck and other fatalities.
But neither the intersections, nor the winter weather, appeared to play a role in Sunday's wreck, investigators said.
Around 6 a.m., before the storm began, an unidentified driver of a 1994 Acura heading south about four miles south of Monroe crossed the center line and struck an oncoming tractor-trailer carrying fruit cups, investigators said.
The truck's cab rode over the car. With the car lodged underneath the truck, the two then swerved across the center line, ran off the left side of the road and caught fire, N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. M.R. Leach said.
The truck driver, James Louis Webster of Inman, S.C., was briefly stuck in his cab, investigators said, but he freed himself and escaped injury.
But the driver of the car likely died on impact, before the vehicles caught fire, investigators said.
The victim's body was sent to the Charlotte Medical Examiner's Office for identification using dental records, Leach said.
In Charlotte, 23 road crews worked during the night, with new crews taking over at 7 a.m. Monday. Workers spread a mixture of salt and slag on the roads, but temperatures hovering near 20 degrees are making it difficult for the chemicals to melt much of Sunday?s accumulations.
Temperatures are forecast to climb slowly into the mid and upper 20?s today, which probably will enable the snow and sleet to melt in heavily traveled areas and at intersections. But the arrival of freezing rain will add new dangers, especially on bridges, overpasses and hilly areas.
As of daybreak Monday, all roads were open in Charlotte, including the treacherous ?flyover? overpass at Interstate-77 and Interstate-485 in south Charlotte.
Yea they call a state of Emergency b/c last year we had a terrible ice storm and it left 1 million people without power for several days.
