I've been having a few problems similar to this. Try turning off the HTML formatting first. It usually goes through for me that way.

Try inserting your text into a text-only editing program such as Notepad. I find that sometimes Word generates very bizarre formatting that this site's edit box can't handle. Pure text should work fine, although I suspect you'll lose any special formatting, e.g. bold/italics. Give it a go...
