If not, then why is there a picture of this sword in the "Book of Bible Stories" for children?

I had read somewhere that They originally planned on having the Garden of Eden protected by a myriad of filth-covered, canabalistic goat demons with flaming tiki torches ... but the idea of a flaming sword won out in the end.

Okay, if we take this literally, God was the first to "take a sword". Mankind had not invented, used or even seen a weapon until then. The sword came from God. Now, think about this scripture:

*** Rbi8 Matthew 26:52 *** Then Jesus said to him: ?Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword."

    Hmmmmm.

Jehovah did not invent weapons of war so it could not have been a real sword.

    Good point.

But then the word "sword" does sound a lot better in that context than a Flaming Hedge Trimmer or Leaf Blower.

The flaming sword guarding the entrance to Paradise is simply that ol' two-edged sword, which is the Word of God...or words, if you prefer...that is...according to scriptural content....ie: to get to Paradise (get a life), simply lay down those ol' "too-wedgied words" that are firey with blame and guilt and quit being judgMENTAL...

    Cheers!

I forgot to mention also the following scripture on the subject of the cherubim as personified winds: "Yahweh ... has made clouds his chariot and walks about the wind's outskirts, who makes the winds his angels (lit. "messengers") and flaming fire his servants." (Psalm 104:3-4)
