I think the Gov body is discouraging conversations in an effort to keep the RF from hearing all the negative they would hear otherwise. The indefensible can decay some people's trust in the Governing Blotto.

Gone are the days of the JWs who could defend or even understand their own beliefs.
Basically, if confronted, they might go get an article from the JW online library, but they are not prepared to discuss it or field any questions about it.
When worse comes to worse, the strategy is like something from Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Run away! Run away!

That's what I've wondered for some time. Do they want witnesses to stay away form worldly types with tatt?

Well said, notsurehweretogo!
How times have changed. Even back in the 1960s through 1980s when pioneers just wanted to get their time in, they were still able to string a few half-decent "arguments" together and give a fair display of having understood what they were actually engaged in talking about.

It seems like the WT's how to create a mind control slave program is complete and successful with witnesses like this couple.
That stare into the middle distance you observed is caled the lights are on but nobody's home look.
What a waste.

I remember years ago at the airport seeing Harikrishna types man a stand waking around handing out tracts and wearing really wired robes and they were all shaved bald too, except the woman. I would think what a bunch of wired cult freaks, now the JWs are the same!

The calibre of JW's "preaching" continues to dribble to new lows.
I wouldn't say that based on that one experience with those people. I have seen rookie JWs struggle with talking to people but it's because they are new and starting to do that work. Also, let's face it, not everyone in this world is college material. Some people are just not capable of understanding or articulating their own ideas and thoughts.

- JWs present at literature carts are not rookies, they are in good standing and often in the full time service (this couple were pioneers). I would expect more and I suspect so would higher ups in the organization.
- Who expected a college level exchange? Not me. My four JW grandparents did not go to college, had very basic educational attainment, were definitely not - with one exception - articulate. Yet they knew their stuff and could engage in a discussion - even if some of the reasoning was shoddy.
- None of my observations about this JW couple are unique. They register with other posters because they know this is far more common among current-day JWs than the organization would ever dare acknowledge.
- Their lack of ability to engage in an exchange is probably more accurately framed as a reflection of the indifference and apathy of the general public towards them - they really don't need to be prepared because few are interested in their message.
- And, BTW, who said the couple were not potentially articulate? Just not about their religious beliefs - which suggests they were both raised in the organization (which they confirmed they were).

Many people are not college educated, but formal education aside, who sends someone out to PREACH that can't even articulate the reason they are standing there? JWs have never taken in the bit in the bible about how everyone has their own skills, abilities and strengths. They rather expect everyone to be capable of being preachers. It's stupid. Even first century fishermen got that straight. These big city, 21st century stooges need to figure it out.
