Remember Hour Quotas?

One CO (Andy Laguna) told me in the 90s he wouldn't even consider appointing new servants who didn't average 15 hrs per month with at least one study.

Now one only has to "fog a mirror".

Oh yah, and have a penis, though there is no longer the requirement for hair on your balls.

After the 10 hour quota disappeared (1972), the boards disappeared. No longer could congregations compare their numbers and determine which congregation were the better congregation based on those statistics. DOC, looking for a husband in the organization, minimum requirement, baptized and breathing. A CO from California, told about an older brother who would take his 3 year old grandson out for a walk and read the bible and count that time. Or the pioneer who wrote a letter to send to send to a person, copied the letter a hundred times, and mailed the letters out (postage was cheaper) and count a hundred hours and put the cost for postage on his tax return as a deduction.

For me, the hours have always been more or less meaningless. I never really cared about being precise, and besides, there was always the need to be above average. In the end, it was just a number. As I got older, I realized that reporting hours became a convenient way to pressure the elders, especially since I was always at odds with those pigs—not all of them, but only a few could be called friends.

In 2018, since I hadn’t signed the privacy policy, I added that to the list. So, no names on the notice board—neither mine nor those of my two unbaptized boys. The fools who only know how to talk nonsense needed a serious lesson. That’s why I made sure they were publicly shamed before the elders’ committee and forbade them and their wives from contacting us. I made sure to leave one of them, the best one, without any restrictions, so no one could say I was out to get them all. But it had to be clear: anyone who opened their mouth would be hunted as if it were open season hunting

    —no prisoners, ever!

For decades, I would call them dogs in front of everyone in the congregation, and no one ever did anything to me for it. The preaching report was something that really annoyed the elders—a lot.

Now that's the best I have ever heard for a pioneer to make their hours! They must have figured out that creative accounting is the WBTS way because their numbers never sort out!!!

    Hi Blondie.

Some of your opening remarks appear to be quotes from JW literature. Do you have specific references, from the Watchtower, Awake, etc, that you can provide.

    All the best!

Scenic Viewer: I put down the year but not the exact place. But if you know how to use the search, and won't be triggered going to Watchtower Online Library, you could search by "quota" and "hours" and see what pops up in those years.. WT 2/15/52 p. 120 "Many high schools close their doors to the pupils in the early afternoon, and some of the summer pioneers who are now going back to school find it possible to get in their 60-hour quota by spending a few hours in the afternoon and evening in the field service, and particularly on week ends." or "quota" "hours" and start with the oldest. WT 6/1/1961 p. 328 "Each congregation has its hour quota and each Witness strives to meet or exceed it. The average minister in a congregation spends some ten hours monthly in such evangelizing. They believe in “buying out the opportune time” for themselves."

The quota of 10 hours was still used a few decades ago, I clearly remember it being a requirement for being considered "active" to do at least 10 hours, 2 hours for the 'sick and elderly', a servant/elder was supposed to meet at least the congregation average, even more if you wanted to be a 'assistant' pioneer or pioneer before you were ever accepted you already had to do the hours. It was brutal for some.

Back then, you could NEVER do enough.

Still pretty much the unwritten rule from what I observed prior to, and what I've been told since getting off the hamster wheel. Not only can a JW never do enough, they can never contribute enough $$$$$.
