    A newly- enacted EU GDPR privacy protection law, to become effective from May 25, has apparently prompted JWs to file suit in protest:

    "Notes on door-to-door visits by Jehovah's Witness members violate the EU Data Privacy Act, according to the attorney general of the EU Supreme Court. His discovery confirms the vision of the data protection commission of Finland."

    "The Luxembourg attorney general, Paolo Mengozzi, rejected a lawsuit filed by the Jehovah's Witness movement on Thursday that states that the memos of its members are only collected individually and do not violate the EU's privacy directive."

    Well, in this case I think the JWs would be right. I mean if you ask someone if you can come back and they say yes it would make sense that you would jot down their name and address.

    It should be as simple as asking the HH if they can make a note. However, it opens up the option of the HH saying no as they don't want a return visit.

    JWs have been told to record notes that go beyond names and addresses to help remind them of discussion points to make on their return visit, although in some places I think they've been told to refrain from this due to laws already in place.

    Back when I was in and still knocking on doors, I would cringe every time I saw a fellow Witness standing on the sidewalk or even just a few steps from the doorway of a house, writing on their pad. It struck me as creepy, and i KNEW what they were writing. I can imagine how it looked to other people in the neighborhood.

    This is not an update but old news from February. The case is still before the CJEU.

    The CJEU judgment will be delivered on 10 July.

    The CJEU (Grand Chamber) judgment was released today: a religious community, such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses, is a controller, jointly with its members who engage in preaching, for the processing of personal data carried out by the latter in the context of door-to-door preaching. The processing of personal data carried out in the context of such activity must respect the rules of EU law on the protection of personal data. It is for the Finnish Supreme Administrative Court now to decide whether the national JW community should be prohibited from door-to-door notekeeping in its current form.

    Gosh, "Satan's World" sure is pulling out all the stops in trying to prevent "Jehovah's People" from telling people "The Truth", innit?

    @corney,

    Thanks for the update. I think news like that deserves a new topic to make sure more people read it though ;-)
