My bf and I were watching the Diane Sawyer interview with Mel last night. I have to admit, I had a moment of feeling
overwhelmed regarding the religion talk. I guess this is the first time since leaving the WTS that I have listen to anyone
talk about religion or beliefs at all and it brought for a second, almost an anxiety attack. it is like I can't handle religion
and I am not sure why. If I had been alone last night I would have turned the channel but my bf was really into it and
wanting to see it, as well as the movie. I am wondering how I am going to do watching the movie.. and if I can handle it..I hate this feeling.. This is just a movie

I watched "Real Time with Bill Maher" and they were discussing this movie. Jason Alexander (from Seinfeld, who is also Jewish) commented this way:
"Correct me if I am wrong, but according to the Bible, it was the Jews who killed Jesus, wasn't it?
And according to what I know about the Messiah, wasn't he supposed to die................
I mean, wasn't that the whole reason he came here?"That kind of put it all in perspective to me. I wonder if the Jews who are upset about it, would prefer it depict Jesus
being killed by the Africans, for instance.I saw parts of the Mel Gibson interview too.................and I knew he was a devout Catholic, but I got the same icky
feeling that Sassy mentioned. I guess I really hate religion too. -

I saw Mel Gibbson in a interveiw today and was really turned off. There was something said about miracles that happened on the set. From what I understood(busy getting dressed)he said that the man playing Jesus Christ was hit twice by lightning ..ya right( He couldn't keep a straight face and look the interveiwer in the eye).He also said that people where getting pregnant left and right(happens every day..unless it where men) He also said the guy playing Jesus had the intitials JC and he is 33 years old. Lost alot of respect for Mel.

It looks like it's going to be a good movie. I do think that too big of a deal is being made over it though, after all, it's just another book being made into a movie.

No Shamus.. but I wanted to talk about how I felt after seeing that interview last night and I ASSUMED there must be a thread on this.. so I went to the Entertainment thread and ADDED to one already created rather than start a new one..

I'm going to dress up as JESUS and go see the movie. Just like all of the LOTR and Star Wars freaks. It'll be rad.

....his last twelve hours in a movie. Now where did the facts come from for this visual? Did they come from a Bible? A Talmud? I find it difficult to believe these documents as proof positive. So what we have is a depiction of the "accepted religious history" of the man Jesus. That should disturb more people than it does. I read the paper and I read older history books. Truth is relative.
Still, we know that the man Jesus did walk the earth, and that his teachings were very different. Even his own followers didn't understand him. He was born a Jew, but his teachings were just as "New Age" as "New Age" is today. His followers established christianity and it still exists today, but how far is it from his real purpose? For Jesus, this was just a way of life for him. The humble realization of the form our souls take on as humans, and the possibilities to return again and again on our journey back to the creator.
His message was love and compassion and he was murdered for being different. Not such an unfamiliar story.
I will wait for the DVD and then rent it. I'm certain it will affect me, because seeing someone brutalized by other humans and having to suffer such indignations will be difficult to watch.
