Yesterday, Her Ladyship returned from Tesco's brandishing a DVD that she's been itching to watch for a week or so now, Calendar Girls.

Well, as far as I was concerned it was just another chick-flick. I was vaguely aware that it starred Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. Oh yes, it was a true story about some middle-class English women in their 50's and 60's who stripped for a charity calendar a year or so back.

So tonight, we sat down, king prawn curry at the ready, armed with Pinot Grigio and started to watch this movie. I have to tell you that it was one of the most amusing films I have seen in years, we laughed till tears rolled down our faces. It even brought a sad tear to my eyes once or twice.

If you get the chance, see it. It's great. Preview trailer here: http://calendargirls.movies.go.com/

I wanted to go see this movie with a girlfriend this week, but alas it's not playing in the theatres here anymore.

We'll be checking it out on video/DVD though.

    Love, Scully

Actually, that is a movie I would want to see. Perhaps the women in that movie were the inspiration for a local group to do the same.

Last year a friend of ours (exjw & I'll call her KP ) invited us to her house for a backyard barbeque. Upon arriving, we quickly realized, that there were a whole lot of people there, that we had never met. Turns out, KP was involved in the very same type of thing. In fact the real reason for the BBQ was to get the women together for a photo shoot.

Most of the women, were accompanied by their husbands, and or adult family. What a diverse and wonderful group of people.

Towards the end of the BBQ, the women excused themselves, and went inside with a photographer from the local newspaper, where they took some shots for the calender. They actually did one on the front steps of their house. ( they must have had a hoot with that one, as KP lives in a very affluent neighborhood ).

When one of the pictures, was published on the front page of our newspaper ( very tastefully done of course ) there was a barrage of complaints and letters to the editers. Sad.

All of these women, have been touched personally by the scourge of cancer. Some have lost loved ones, some have had cancer and are survivors. This is their way of doing something to fight back.

I have the utmost of respect for all of them.

And I look forward to the movie.

if you had told us you were starring in it!!!!....well, then you would have gotten our attention! LOL

I guess I need to put it on my "must see" list because Mouthy and E-man recommends it.

My Mom, Sister and myself went to the theater to see this movie. It's hysterical!!!! I haven't laughed that much in a long time. The theater was full to capacity, with everyone enjoying themselves. My Mom is English, so she enjoyed it all the more so. When it comes out in the U.S. on DVD I plan on sharing this movie with my hubby, I've already warned him :-)

Mouthy, I did see your post, I didn't have a chance to respond, sorry.

Interestingly, I did hear a rumour that Helen Mirren would, perhaps anyway, be prepared to keep her clothes ON for a movie, if it could be proved that doing so was absolutely essential to the plot.
