You know... for a long time when I was a kid I didn't realize that the Dutch lived in Netherland... I thought there was a Dutchland and a Netherland.

I do not know why they call people from The Netherlands "Dutch". In the German language, someone who lives in Germany is called "Deutsch", but in English he is called "German". The Netherlands literally means "The Low Lands", as most of the country lies below sea-level (about and up to 10 meters below). So if the dikes burst, about 2/3 of the country would be inundated by water. Another name for The Netherlands is also "Holland".
