Yesterday afternoon, one of the local elders called me. He said he wanted hear my assessment of how my Mom is doing, since she moved to assisted living, and if there was anything he could do. He was very nice, charming actually, and I had a couple of suggestions and he said he would get right on it.

Then he told me about the upcoming CO visit the end of April and then the date for the Memorial. A bit of small talk after I didn't react much, and then he said he would love it if we came to the KH again. I thanked him and told him he was the first one in FIVE YEARS to invite us to the Memorial. We have never met this elder because he moved here from Alaska a couple of years after we left, but I've talked with him about Mom several times. He was so sincere and so nice, so he said he knew things were handled badly in our situation. I said "you think?" He laughed, and then I said there was a lot of unfair gossip (true, but still not fair) and he said he realized that and apologized.

Then he accepted that we probably weren't coming to the Memorial, since I didn't agree to come, and said they would make arrangements to get Mom there. I thanked him for that and told him it would mean a lot to her to be there.

I told Dave about the invitation to the Memorial, and he said this "I would rather get a root canal done."

Yes, it would mean a lot to your mom to have the congregation help her instead of probably feeling bad about asking you to take her.

Sounds like the junior boy on the totem pole. And got to get those attendance numbers up.

Still he sounds like a good hearted person. Perhaps he can be saved.

Sad part is, after the memorial, I doubt, any one will offer to assist mom to the meetings.

Mom is a shut in..........very frail, 91 years old. She has a wheelchair for when I have to take her out to doctors appointments, but it is a monumental effort to take her anywhere. It's sad because her mind is so sharp and she looks so good. It's really hard to think of her as so old, but she has very bad osteoporosis and is in a lot of pain. The pain is controlled by meds at the moment, but things change every few weeks.

She listens to meetings on the phone link.

    G'day Mulan and Dave,

I have to tell ya that one of the good things the borg does for us now is that the elders don't call!

Can you imagine attending the Memorial where everyone rejects the emblems??!!!

I don't know about the root canal though.........hmmmmmm, let me see........yep, maybe Dave's right!!!

Now don't worry about winter....summer's coming - we're gonna lend it to ya! It's 40 degrees celsius again today...and again and again...

    Cheers, Ozzie

Oh my.................that is way too hot for me. I love hot days, but not that hot.

I keep telling myself that Spring is near............some flowers are coming up already. I am impatient...................ask anyone.............they'll tell you it's true.
