Have to put in another - The Rising by Bruce Springsteen and then Lonesome Day off the same album were really healing for me after 9/11.
Also, Elevation by U2, those damn hippies can rock!

What song cheers you up as soon as you hear the first few notes? What cheers me up are twangy bluegrass banjo music like "Big Rock Candy Mountain" (http://www.reallyrics.com/lyrics/H004800010001.asp), "Watermelon Smilin' on the Vine", etc. Hard not to feel happy when you're listening to banjo pickin' and simple bluegrass lyrics. Also, have you ever had any experiences that related to the music playing in the background?
Sure, when making love (something mellow, new age, etc), exercising (metal), whatever. There's alway good music appropriate for the occasion.
...the song that gets my heart pounding as soon as I hear those first few notes. As for getting the heart pounding, which I prefer for exercise, Yes, AC/DC, Metallica, or other metal is always good for inspiration.
