I actually lost mine when I had surgery when I was 29. I went in to remove my chronically infected tonsils. Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy
The doctor left the clamp on a blood vessel, on too long. Apparently this vessel went to the uvula. If he had left, it it would have swollen up. Thus choking me.. so he removed it all together. When I woke up and looked I was horrified at all the stitches. They then took all the tissue they had and biopsied it. The whole process was painful.
