You may not be offended, but you seem frustrated again.

I'm having trouble understanding the point of the original post. I take it that it's saying... freedom is defined by the right to choose (discriminate) in all areas of life by all people/entities.

If that's what it is supposed to be saying, I can't agree with that. Human nature seems to indicate that people act out of fear of losing their power and control to another group, which leads to problems. The purpose of anti-discrimination law is to minimize those problems.

hat's more, people have the right to teach their children to discriminate. (?)

And those children have the right to grow up and discriminate, infuriate, and then be shot by someone who got pissed because they were discriminated against. And the shooter just had no right, though every excuse, to kill. Hopefully, the fact that the shooter acted outside of his rights will comfort the well discriminating parent; afterall, he told his kid that those people were like that.

The point is, haters are shit. They kill their own children and blame it on the world

Discrimination is not inheirently evil. If I teach my child that they should "discriminate" and not hang out with drug dealers on the corner, am I teaching them something "wrong"? Or, if I tell my child not to hang out with a known child pediphile, to discriminate between well intentioned/ not well intentioned individuals to protect himself, is that wrong? I don't think so.

I'm assuming that this discussion arose from the discussion of homosexuals right to marriage (am I right)? If this is the case, Ruby's article could actually be used as as argument FOR homosexual marriage. If it wasn't, I still will use it as my example.

I have the right to think homosexual marriage is right, or I have the right to view it as wrong/immoral. Personally, I think that everyone has the right to marry whatever sound minded adult they wish too.

But, that doesn't mean I have the right to chose for those that wish to participate in a homosexual marriage. That is between themselves, their morals and their Gods (if they have one). The government does not have the right to do anything but what they were supposed to do - defend individual's personal rights & beliefs against other's personal discriminations.

I find it amazing that all "minorities" since the inception of this countrie have been discriminated against because of "white men" sense of morals and personal discriminations - flying straight into the face of the Constitution they created. Its about time one more minority was given the same respect & rights as citizens as the rest of us.

Again, I'd like to point out that there are different senses of the word, as mentioned in the dictionary... one having to do with discernment, and one having to do with prejudice, or "pre-judgement".

And as far as "common sense" preventing prejudiced behavior, I'll side with Albert Einstein: "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."

    Ruby says to Valis:

Your are sooooo 2 faced you dog Simon on Ricks site.

This is an absolute untruth or as it's called a LIE. A lie obviously meant to put a seed of doubt in the mind's of others about someone. THAT is bullshit but I am not the least bit surprised.

Phantom gave the definition of discrimination as commonly used.

IMO this entire thread was meant to inflame the common decency here.

Tomorrows headlines will undoubtedly be, " Simon and the mods allow some heated debates on some threads and not others, according to his favorites"

    LOL.

Unless of course Ruby had some constructive point to posting this malarky.

I perfer to take her at her word. She posted her borrowed drivel with no intention to offer discussion, education, or admit opinion contrary.

Why Ruby would you not just leave if you hold so many here in disreguard? Oh, I get it..you need brownie points to enter another site.

Same old song and dance IMO

Little Witch - no one needs "brownie points" to post somewhere else.

And as far as "common sense" preventing prejudiced behavior, I'll side with Albert Einstein: "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."

As someone who was raised a JW, with extreme prejudices, I can use myself as an example to show that one can use common sense to overcome prejudice.

I would suggest to you that common sense is a fiction.

I would further suggest that those among us most traveled would agree that the farther you go, the more "common sense" changes...

Spoken like a straight white male born in the late 20th-century in the West...

So are you disagreeing with my opinion or are you just discriminating against me?
