CB Yes that is a quite frequent statistic on sexual abuse of women. It came from a study done in the 80's by Diana Russell. Many studies since then have found similar results
It includes many kinds of sexual assault including non-touch forms of assault (flashing, forcing a child to watch sexual acts for example)
Russell's initial study was pretty intensive and covered a lot of ground. At the time it was ground breaking research because until then all research had been done based on police reports. And we know so few assaults ever get to the police. Russell sent people door to door and asked for the woman of the house and asked whether they would be willing to participate.

Yes, this is a statistic I wish weren't true - first learned it while training at the local Rape Crisis centre in '93. Sadly, I have learned, over the last 10 years, that it rings true with most of my friends.
The stats for boys are rising as well, now that men are gaining the freedom to speak out about these rapes.
Support for all is needed. With help from a loving community, these folk can heal.

Maybe if we had stricter laws and stopped trying to rehabilitate these perps(and setting them free), the numbers would go down.

Sad isn't it. As parents we have an obligation to educate out children and be frank with them. We owe it to them to let them know the reality of these cases.

That is a very frightening statistic. A few weeks ago, during the public talk, the elder mentioned the same statistic, and then went on to use that to try and prove how bad the world is, and how much it is a protection to remain part of the organization.

Interesting comment from the elder to say that is why we need to stay in the organization where we find protection, when the WTBS has thousands of child abuses cases waiting to be processed!!!

One part of this static that is rising drastically and may increase the numbers in the next few years is date rape. More girls are being pressured or forced into unwanted sexual contact. Young girls without the needed supports and love at home will often feel they cannot leave these abusive boyfriends. They wind up being just as trapped as older women.
Our kids need to be really well educated about sexuality and relationships. And that has to start well before puberty. Laying the basis when they are young helps as they enter the teens years.
