    Gary,

I'm sorry to hear of you wife's shortened life. I also lost a family member but under slightly different circumstances. When we were kids in school in the 50's the Salk vaccine was introduced to prevent polio. The witlesses at that time railed against innoculations so none of us got the free vaccines when they clinics came to the school. One of my older brothers contracted polio, ended up in an iron lung. After nearly two years of intensive treatment he could survive out side the lung. He was allowed to come home one weekend but the doctors insisted he not be around crowds. He was to stay with the family. Unfortunately that weekend was an assembly and the nitwit elders told my parents that the doctors were not "believers" and didn't understand Jehovah's ways. He would be safe coming to the assembly. Well he went, within 48 hours his imune system was overwhelmed and he was rushed back to the hospital where he asphixiated in his own vomit in the iron lung. Of course it was the doctor's fault occording to my family and the elders...

    Malpractice suit anyone?

Gary, you're absolutely right, your wife deserved that chance. Many people who have that particular surgery live longer, and for the Society to take that away from her, and then to reverse their stance a few years later, is absolutely despicable.

And for them to slam the phone down in a reporter's ear when questioned about this fatal policy is even worse. Bastards!

Great article! Keep up the good work...

Merton Campbell of the Jehovah's Witnesses headquarters in Brooklyn, N.Y., said members never have been forbidden from seeking medical help

Oh my God!! What a LIAR!! Well, the good news is, is that people like Gary Buss is doing all he can to expose the lies, hypocracy and deceitfulness that goes on behind closed doors at Columbia Heights. Years ago, the Society rarely had anything bad written about it, but with more and more people leaving and thanks to the Internet and support from others, they can no longer hide.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gary. I hope Campbell is sh*tting bricks.

Thanks for all of your efforts.

If I read this correctly, all of this media attention occurred in 1996.
