Hey y'all! This past fall I became a new soccer mom. Would one of you care to explain what the heck is meant by the term "Offsides?"
Nikita
And don't brag about the Gunners too much until they put away Celta Vigo.
Oh, but they WILL put them away. Its not bragging...there is no doubt in my mind
Nikita,
The "Offside rule" is designed so that a player can't just hang around the opposing teams goal hoping to score if the ball is kicked forward to him. It means that the ball has to be played and passed to be worked forward, this requires infinitely more skill than just kicking the ball into the opponents goal area and makes for much more interesting football.
Here y'go:
Englishman.
They look underfed!
Thanks Englishman! That explained it very clearly! My husband will be amazed when I explain it to him, lol!
Nikita
Easy, yes... but makes little sense to Yanks... why wouldn't you want to allow that play? "Would make soccer interesting", they mutter to themselves.
That's why indoor is so popular here.
My indoor team had a 1-1 tie Saturday night - my best showing in the goal yet. Much celebrating all round. Now we just need to score!
Nikita: Americans can understand the infield fly rule, the three second violation and the false start rule...but offisides is a mystery...
E-Man: don't forget...FIFA said that now you're only off if you play the ball. They ruled it last week.
Dan-the-Man: Crew stad. is AWESOME...but our stadium will be better than yours...until then...
WE'RE #10!
WE'RE #10!
WE'RE #10!
WE'RE #10!
PS: Us yanks have to remember...we ain't the only nation that plays the sport. besides, goals in soccer are precious. Working it upfield is better.
So you play human pinball eh? glad you held 'em to one.
For almost 9 years, I lived about 1 mile away from Highbury (home of Arsenal). From my balcony I could hear the almost religious chants going up ... Arrrrrrsennnnallllllllllll. Nothing in the word like English Football fans (although the Philadelphia Eagles fans do come close).
