Wow! When did they stop using the Astrodome in Houston? Where are the SE Texas english speaking JWs going?

Damn... it looks like SE Texas has had a very significant decrease in membership. The closest place I can find is College Station which is almost twice as far for everyone to drive as before.

Actually, I think this will be the first time they're not using the Astrodome in Houston, as I was there last year for their world famous "Beware the Voice of Strangers" talk. All the dubs I know now have to drive some 80 miles to College Station. Interesting that they've divided it in three seperate weekends.
The Reed Center there only holds about 15K to 18K people, so, it remains to be seen if the Soceity will try to pack every seat forcing people to go to cars that have sat in the Texas heat all day for food.

The Astrodome's capacity is 54,816*... the new location is 12,500**.
No doubt one of the speakers will comment on how good it is to see a packed auditorium... failing to point out that they are occupying a facility that that only has 23% of the capacity of the previous.
I can recall when I was a kid seeing the Astrodome packed and hearing announcements of 40,000+ people in attendance... then the a few years later 35,000.... then 30,000... then 28,000..........
Looks like the SE Texas District is in trouble!

Thanks for the headcount on the capacity of the Reed Center Elsewhere. Did you also notice that they're not using that Rosenburg Assembly hall at all? I didn't notice it in the schedule. I guess it is too small a venue to bring in the big bucks the Soceity is demanding these days. If I missed it I apologize for even bringing it up.

You are correct... The Rosenburg Assembly Hall is not listed at all. I think it is only used for circuit assemblies and special assembly days because it only has a capacity of a few thousand... don't quote me on it but I think it is between 3000 and 5000.
I find it very interesting that they spanish speaking congregations are using the Beaumont Civic Center instead of the Rosenburg Assembly Hall considering they have about the same capacity. I could only speculate on why this is.

edited to make link "clickable" - Scully
-----------
Thanks, Scully, for doing that. If I put those 'sideways triangle marks' on each end of the url, then the entire url does not show up in the reply, so I quit doing that but then the link is not 'clickable.' I use IE for Mac, so I think things do not work the same for my 'puter as for PeeCee folks.

"they have finally dropped St. Pete altogether" I think that is because the Bayfront Center? is or is going to be torn done. ------------- Blondie, that wouldn't surprise me. That place was pretty shabby way back in the '80s when I went to a DC over there just to 'get outta town' and break up the monotony of always going to Jax. for the DCs. I was being 'rebellious' and attended a DC to which I was not assigned. ;-) Grits
