This is a topic where you can have lots of theories... and you have no data at all. None. Zip. It's the opinion-to-bunghole ratio situation - everyone has one and most of them stink.

So what's your purpose? To reduce the stress of the unknown future? IMO, you're better off learning coping techniques than trying to unscrew the inscrutable.

Desib, anyone who tells you they definately know what happens in the after life is full of crap. Too many people have wasted their lives pondering this question that will never be answered until the end of their existence. I for one don't give a rats-ass because it doesn't affect what I do today.

    Phantom,

I really don't have any certain purpose for my question. I am just curious about everyone's opinion on it. I've been taught to ignore all other possibilities and focus only on paradise. I know there has to be more to it than that and I'm curious what everyone thinks about it.

Also, I do believe it affects life to a certain extent. For example, if you strongly believe what the Baptists do then you are probably going to do what you can to not burn in hell. At least I know if that were my belief I would be a little more careful with what I did in my life.

You might want to consider reading some of the Eastern cultures beliefs on reincarnation.

It is interesting in that we humans have a certain "energy"; brainwaves; etc. Science cleary indicates that energy cannot be destroyed. The shape of energy can be changed; but not destroyed.

Whether this supports the Christian beliefs or the Eastern beliefs of reincarnation would be an interesting hypothesis.

I do agree with Sargons comment; no one really knows; or to date; has any proof.

    Franklin,

That is interesting. I didn't know that. I think I will look into it a little bit more.

I understand nobody really knows and nobody will ever know for certain. I just think it is interesting seeing the wide range of thoughts people have about it.

Growing up I was always taught that I would live in paradise. Even with this belief, as a child I was terrified of death. I remember having nightmares many, many nights after one of the brothers that I looked up to in the cong. died. Many people do not have a fear of death and I'm interested in knowing what beliefs they have that comfort them. I guess to me paradise just wasn't enough of a comfort.

There are some people who are terrified of death, then there are others that except it as a part of life. I don't believe you go to hell and get tortured , that would scare anyone.Just like the jws teach ,if you are not a jw you will die and are part of Satan. But the jws also teach that you will suffer in the end with youre loved one's who are not jw dieing before youre eyes. I don't believe there is any torture of any kind. At least no one has come back to tell me different . Live today not what could happen tomorrow. KLS

If you believe in reincarnation, do you believe that humans come back as humans? Do you feel that some are punished for what they have done wrong in one life by coming back as something less in another?

    Desi,

Human only. But as I say, I really have no idea. MAybe this is the way I hope it is.
