That's easy (not the 666 part, but the definition of the antichrist). The antichrist is a group of people, those who deny that Jesus is the Christ, or Messiah, who deny that there is both a a Father(YHWH) and a Son(Jesus Christ), those who deny that Christ came in the flesh. There is no ambiguity as to that definition:

    1 John 2:18
Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.
(Whole Chapter: 1 John 2 In context: 1 John 2:17-19)

    1 John 2:22
Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist?he denies the Father and the Son.
(Whole Chapter: 1 John 2 In context: 1 John 2:21-23)

    1 John 4:3
but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
(Whole Chapter: 1 John 4 In context: 1 John 4:2-4)

    2 John 1:7
Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.
(Whole Chapter: 2 John 1 In context: 2 John 1:6-8)

As for the ?number of the Beast?, 666, this remains a mystery in that no one can absolutely prove the meaning of the numbers to date.

    Holey,

Interpretations belong to God, not men. I don't worry about interpretations, riddled with assumptions, such as those you alluded to. IMO, what is important is to focus on what is necessary for salvation, not getting bogged down with "interpreting" prophecies that have myriad interpretations.

"Good morning brothers and sisters.....and welcome to the second day of our "Worshipping Jehovah with blinders on in the last days" convention.

*gumby has flashbacks of doing the announcments at the convention......then realises he was only dreaming*

    Damn I hate flashbacks! Sorry.

In the book of Revelation....Chap. 1 verse 1...it says..... "The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to SHOW his servants what must soon take place".

That should give you a clue. God gives jesus a message to give to us so we will know what is taking place, so jesus gives us this number but leaves out any details of what it means. The entire book of Rev. is a mystery to man.....yet god goes out of his way to give all this info. to jesus to pass onto us so we can all take guesses as to what the hell it all means. Ah.....those damn dads who like to play headgames are rascals....aren't they?

    Gumby,

Those who have faith in God, trust that he has good reasons for doing so. We don't need to know everything to be saved. We simply need to place faith in Him (YHWH), his Son, Jesus Christ, and the redeeming power of Christ's sacrifice.

I have faith that when the time is appropriate it will be clear what "666" refers to, as well as numerous other prophecies. But the key is this- spending time quiveling over the various and sundry interpretations of prophecies can divert our attention away from what is important: SALVATION.

    Cheers,

Revelation 13:18 (NW) states: “Here is where wisdom comes in: Let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man’s number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.” What is meant by this number?—E. J., United States.

The number suggests selfish gain because in olden times King Solomon’s annual revenue was 666 talents. Also, the dimensions of Nebuchadnezzar’s golden idol-image, which the three faithful Hebrews refused to salute and adore, were sixty cubits high and six cubits broad. And wicked Goliath, who fought against God’s nation Israel, had a brother giant with six digits on each hand and on each foot, and pictured Satan’s visible dictatorial organization that claims to be the “higher powers” instead of acknowledging Jehovah and Christ as such. So six represents a completeness only in man’s sight and falls short of the completeness or perfection that God designates by the number seven.— 1 Ki. 10:14; Dan. 3:1; 1 Chron. 20:6; Rom. 13:1.

Gumby's quote of revelation about it passing soon is the key. So, it's all over and finished with, folks, whatever john was hallucinating about. Unless you are so mathematically/time/intelligence challenged that you see 2000 yrs as being soon

    We've been over this before.

John was talking about Nero - and the resumption of the bitter persecution of Christians that they underwent during his reign, and then its resumption (emerging from the pit) under Domitian. Apparently John thought this indicated that the end of the world was very close. He was wrong. There is nothing in Revelation that means anything to anybody today - it was all allegories about the Roman world of that time. The great harlot is Nero's mother who committed fornication with Nero and was the inspiration of much anti-Christian persecution. Her devastation was allegorical when Nero turned on her and had her killed.

The seven heads indicate the seven hills of Rome, which John claimed drew its power from Satan himself.

Unfortunately, this explanation seems too simple for much of today's peddlers of perdition, including a couple of ministers who have made a killing writing down their ludicrous interpretations of the Bible.

There is no specific Antichrist predicted in the Bible, although the sheer weight of human expectation may produce one who will claim that mantle.
