Sparks, it seems to be different even among different States over here. Texas is one of the few that is so forthcoming with their sex offenders database. California is horrible, as simplesally stated, on top of that, I think you can only search by name, not your city or local vicinity, so you would have to know the persons name to begin with...I could be wrong on that as it has been a while since I looked into it, I just remember it being absurdly difficult.

A neighbor could be one of the More than 50 registered sex offenders located in your immediate area. Find out who they are, where they live and see their photo.
We located over 50 predators within 1 miles of your zip code, your Member Map will pinpoint them exactly. With full membership you will be able to specify a full address and the radiusYup...there's a freakin halfway house for these bastards very near here....makes me want to puke..or do something far worse..
Sincerely,
District Overbeer

After doing the search I discovered that by coincidence there are three in my zip code too.

Nevada does not even allow inquiries! They simply make community notifications.
Here's a cool website that tells you what each state does and does not do.

Shouldn't the term "known sex offender" be an oxymoron?
Just a thought.

I checked Pennsylvania's laws- you have to send an email to the State Police with your request, because the PA Supreme Court reads in Megan's Law that: "a citizen may request..." so the request is in the form of an email before they will (I suppose) send you a list of 'em. Pretty cumbersome. I think if I go on the website, I should be able to push a button that says "I request..." that should be enough of a "request", eh?
I should send 'em an email, although perhaps I don't want to know...

Thunder,
KNOWN SEX OFFENDERS
I typed that into Google and found this: http://www.always-safe.com/sexoffenders.html
Please note that each link will open to a new page allowing you to search each individual website.
Occassionally the web addresses change before I have a chance to update them. Should you find any links that do not work, please let me know and I will update them as soon as possible. -

Do other countries do this as well?
