I am definitely a coffee snob. I have been known to send it back in restaurants. I swear they use half the coffee they need to. I say, if you can see the bottom of the cup, it isn't strong enough.

Brands matter too. Canned coffee is horrible............all of it. Haven't had one that is good. I buy the Costco brand, that is roasted and packaged at the store. (the Costa Rica blend) They have wonderful grinders too............and it's only $6 for two pounds. I usually buy 4 pounds at a time. Starbucks is the best, but we only buy it occasionally..........too pricey.

I am so happy to hear it will help me to not develop diabetes. Hmmmm. Time for my afternoon break. Coffee time!!

yes i know Mouthy, one day it is all good, the next it is all bad. Even bottled water is not all good. U have to eat, and i guess u just try to use good judgment and moderation, which the Bible says, and hope for the best.

I buy the ground coffees at the grocery store. I love vermont maple at the moment.

    Coffee ..mmmm

Mouthy, I too am diabetic (diet-regulated). I have read that caffeine affects blood-sugar levels, I know it does mine. In fact, I should do some research on that - maybe I need to watch coffee consumption more carefully ...

Perhaps, for an insulin diabetic, coffee consumption would require adjustment of the dosage. (?)

Maybe we'll hear from Scully on this ...

I've drunk coffee by the bucket load over the years, but was diagnosed type II diabetes at age 37 - I'm not overweight, I run as a hobby and with no family history of it. If I hadn't have drunk so much coffee maybe diabetes would have struck alot earlier. Hohum.

Yes, mouthy... so I just go with my gut on this one... (that is, what makes my gut happy)

I always tend to prefer the research which shows all the good qualities of coffee. I'm shamelessly biased. I'm glad there is a good reason to drink MORE coffee!

I don't care for wickedly strong coffee, but I can drink it. What I like right now is a medium to medium-dark roast of El Salvadoran beans. Central American beans are best-known for aroma. That's what I've read, anyway--and it sure seems true when I grind those beans.

I use a Monkey Blend from Sweetmarias.com for espresso. Yuuuum.

I agree heartily! I'm pretty healthy, it's mostly a genetic thing. All it means is that we continue to eat healthily and the dis-ease will maintain.

Some foods tend to really affect me that way, so I just avoid them.... no big deal. Now that I've read this thread, though, I've been thinking about how coffee has been a valuable tool in lifting my energy when I needed a snack and had none. A little research on the net would be interesting, methinks ...

This discussion is really informative. Thanks all from me.

edit: I couldn't remember who started the thread .... thanks, Bebu

Jesus was like that too wasn't he.. turning water into wine.... good for your stomach wasn't it. ..

One thing I do know for sure about Bebu..the Coffee Queen.. whatever she walks into in life rest asuredly that her "Eyes are Wide Open".. hahahahahahha

You keep me wanting to have a shot at roasting my own coffee, bebu.. just to give it a try.

Tell us again how much it might cost for a roaster and a little about how you do this?

    sincerely

Yeah, I've heard about this study for a couple of weeks now. I'm a big coffee fan, but I don't drink more than 1 cup a day generally, though. Then again, my coffee of choice is Starbucks, so that explains it .
