    Shotgun,

    This is what I don't understand. I worked on a Sexual Assault crisis line - we had 15 weeks training, and 2 sessions with the cops - 1 was local, 1 was RCMP. Part of the legal handbook we received was clear that non-reporting was considered as aiding the crime - maybe I am wrong and it is a misdemeanour? I will check on that ...

    I know that we, as 'crisis intervenors', were required to report any incidents of people under the age of majority, or we could be charged. This was in 94. But charged with what, specifically, is the question. So as I said, I will look around and see what I can find. Maybe it is not a federal law, this happened in a different province as well.

    Talesin I don't understand either that's why I brought it up...it makes no sense...does it really boil down to how good your lawyers are?

    In the Minnesota case, as Hawkaw pointed out on another thread, the main thing was that Attorney Anderson was evidently too dumb to see that the reporting law he was relying on provided only for CRIMINAL remedies, not CIVIL ones. In other words, just a legal technicality that made it a super easy slam-dunk for the WTS. (Read the full text of the decision here:

    )

    Someone posted a thread a while back stating that the case of the Berry girls in New Hampshire is ultimately doomed for fail for the very same reason (Anderson is lead attorney for that case, too, I believe).
