Old Friends from the hall invited us over to their house.....

OK, so we get a call from some friends who looked up to us as "who to be like".

We have been on the fade for, well, a long time now, which is quite a contrast because we were the never miss type. The last conversation I had with the husband he kind of opened up about how he was having trouble going anymore. His wife however reminded him of his vow not only to her but also to 'their' god. She made him clearly aware of how she more than expected him to continue regardless of how he was feeling. This was about 8 months ago.

Now I know people can be swayed so when we got the invitation I was wondering if this was an 'intervention' in our behalf. My wife and I had a plan that if there was any other surprise guests she was going to go to the bathroom and call my cell phone from hers with an emergency. This is a fact of our life and although not REAL common, it has been known to happen and we have to beat a hasty retreat.

Well we got there and got me off alone and WANTED TO KNOW WHY WE WERE NOT GOING ANYMORE. I asked him why he wanted to know. He told me about how he was feeling and how the religion was becoming more about zeal and less about Chrisianity. I asked him to explain even though I knew what he meant I wanted to hear his reasoning to get an indication of how far into the process he was. He had really progressed from our last meeting. I asked him if his wife had 'come along' any. He said she had. She also said that it seemed like everyone who 'was normal' was leaving. And I thought about it she's right. In a rather anti climatic way, in this part of the state (with the exception of Euph & Piph ) people are fading in a rather quiet way.

His wife mentioned she wanted to get together with us more often. We are going to proceed cautiously but it appears that she has the feelings that things are wrong but doesn't know the reasons behind her feelings yet. We are MORE than happy to help them both along.

Just for you WT boys reading along, this isn't the first one, and it WON'T be the last. The case against you will only pick up more and more momentum as time goes on. And well I'm afraid it's going to affect book sales and attendance which will mean contributions, TIME TO SELL MORE NY REAL ESTATE!! Just watch out for the tax man.

Sorry JW'D'ers, I couldn't resist. Looks like it's time to give the gift that keeps on giving, another edition of COC.

    Thoughts?

It sounds like they really have a lot of trust with you. It can take guts to come out in the relative open about such things.

    This is great.. wow..

I wish my mom would have second thoughts.......die hard to the end I know..

but it does give hope if others are seeing through the BS.. maybe..

I mean I sure would have bet you on a stack of bibles (if we were allowed to bet that is) that I would have never had doubts..

The best part is they are really genuine people, it would be a great boost to their life to leave the weight of the Borg behind.

What a great opportunity, I just hope we have what it takes to help them out. Time will tell.

whie its great to see another jw trying to think outside the box, beware of theocratic warfare. it may be a trap. it may only be dangerous if y'all have family that are "in" still, but if you don't then its ok to play along and see where it goes. only you know the situation and can tell if they are sincere. sometimes human contact person to person reveals true motives. good luck.

    Fear - Fear - Fear

Odd how we all are / were in a christian cong with so much fear. How the FDS promote the fear that goes along with being a witness.

Thank goodness religions can't burn at the stake exposers and bible readers anymore. That's what DF'ing and especially labling as apostates is - a modern day burning at the stake. Kills the person, efectively, and serves as a warning to the rest.

What should be learned is that by keeping such a tight fist the WT forces those with doubts to seek out "opposers" to talk. Those with doubts certainly can't talk to anyone in the hall or the elders, well that's not true. If you have doubts about the existance of Jehovah you could, but to doubt the validity of the FDS is of course the unpardonable sin.

I wonder if the first century christians lived in fear?

Yup the writing is on the wall. That's probably why they are attempting to build an apartment complex in Brooklyn Heights using volunteer labor. What a windfall of cash that'll bring them when they decide to pack up and move the entire operation upstate.

Proceed carefully and gently, it is easy to forget how painful and difficult it is to go through the process of leaving da troof.

Just becareful as to what YOU say. Its better to be the question asker and let them answer. The wife may suddenly change her mind and then turn you all in. She could get pressured by the elders as to why she is not going to meetings and spill the beans about your 'helpfulness.'
