Last Wednesday, me and my fiance went over to my parents' place for supper. My mother warmly invited us to attend the spiritual event (as she does every year). My fiance started first, "Yeah, we could have a nice snack while we're there!". I jumped in and also stated my intent to partake. The invitation dropped quite quickly. I then got into a religious debate with my mother about why JWs still celebrate the memorial if Jesus arrived in 1914 (or whatever). I showed her the scripture in 1 Corinthians (I think). She then told me that it would stop when Jesus arrived on earth. I pointed at the scripture and said, "Where the hell does it say that?" Kinda stumped my mother and she tried to change the subject. Apparently I was twisting the scripture when I read it directly, but she wasn't twisting it by adding "when he arrives on earth".
Got my annual Memorial invitation!

Some years, the elders don't even come over to invite me. If It's not important enough to invite me, it's not important enough for me to go.

After NINE years of non-attendance at any JW meetings, I received an invitation to the Memorial a couple of weeks ago. And it wasn't even a direct invitation!!.... The Sister? who visited said she wanted to drop off the new book that they were going to be starting (for the second time around) at the Book Study? in March. The invitation to the Memorial was tucked inside the back cover. She didn't even mention it. And I'm going to pretend that I didn't notice it.

I got an invitation from my mother yesterday to attend the 'wine and cracker party'. My wife and I went about 3 years ago and it was the first time I had been to a KH since being DA'd in 1983. My main emotion was over whelming sympathy. I wanted to get up on the stage and say "Hey, guys & gal it's all lies. Finish this now and start enjoying life." I felt like a 'never a smoker' in a ward full of smoking lung cancer sufferers, I had the cure but they didn't believe me.
I might go. It keeps my parents sweet and reminds me that they (the Org) can't hurt me. You never know an opportunity might arise for a 2034 jibe to a stranger .

I'd love to go just to take a big swig of the wine, and then let out a big:
"Ahhhhhh, not bad...Though I prefer something from Napa Valley myself"
You know some people are dying to know what it tastes like
BTW, nice reply from your squeeze Nos!

Haha, I remember one year when they were passing the wine I held it near my nose and took a deep breath. Smelled it real good. My parents were horrified. I couldn't figure out what was so wrong. I was appreciating, not partaking. LOL!
We haven't actually been invited yet, but we can't figure that one out. With so much family in, our first full year out (we attended the Memorial last year) and people from the congregation still trying to call us and "stopping by." Here it is three weeks away and no actual invite. We figure they've decided to wait until a little later and then put the pressure on. *sigh*
