I remember some statement in the late 1950s about not DFing a person that joined the armed forces because it could be viewed as an act of treason. They will be treated as DFd but not publicly reproved. Please help me with this. I threw away all my WT books when I DAd myself 3 years ago. thanks Dan

No article but I do know that the policy is that any baptized JW joining the military is not DF'd but it is considered that they disassociated themselves by joining just like joining another religion. Recently, taking a blood transfusion has become an act of disassociating oneself from the WTS rather than something the BOE has to investigate for the purposes of DFing.

It is quite a different matter with a former Christian who is "disassociated." This designation is applied basically in two situations:

The second situation involves a person who renounces his standing in the congregation by joining a secular organization whose purpose is contrary to counsel such as that found at Isaiah 2:4, where we read concerning God?s servants: "They will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore." Also, as stated at John 17:16, "they are no part of the world, just as I [Jesus] am no part of the world."?Compare Revelation 19:17-21.

In either of these two situations, the person by word and/or actions has clearly terminated his status as one of Jehovah?s Witnesses, disassociating himself.

Hence, the elders will announce briefly to the congregation that this individual has disassociated himself. Those in the congregation will accept the person?s decision and thereafter will view him as a former brother with whom they would not fellowship, in harmony with what we read at 1 Corinthians 5:11 and Þ ; Ü 2 John 9-11.

Wow... so did the WTS disassociate itself when it joined the UN?

    Looks like they did, Elsewhere.

But as hawkaw keeps pointing out, the WTS "associated" with the UN, it did not "join."

    That's why I don't go to meetings.

I can remember when I first started school you could not stand for the flag salute. Then it was changed so you could stand or sit but not salute, a conscience matter whether you sat or stood.

I remember the talks and conversations about the subject, but for my research to stand up to scrutiny I need hard copy .Paper quotes and so forth.

I do have the 97 wtcd but there is not any writen statements concerning these two topics.

I can see myself in the JC now...

But Brother Quick-to-Judge... I didn't actually "join" the YMCA.... I just "associated" my self with them to use there athletic equipment.

You know that answer would get me the "fast track" DFing.
