My friends have commented on this over the years. They tease me about over-explaining. I finally realized that it was one of the last vestiges of JW I had left over ...
Now I am learning that "NO" is a complete sentence. *LOL*

The biggest thing, and this really ticks me off about myself, is hearing a line of thinking contrary to JW doctrine and being sooooo tempted to rebut or "reason" with the person I am talking to. I refrain, but I still start to think along those lines and begin to judge and critique the other person's beliefs . . . OMG! Somebody slap me! LOL
I also do the "over-explaining" thing too.

I am continually mentioning this habit of having to explain to Mrs Ozzie. How much guilt must have been bred into the whole dub community that they feel the need to make excuses?
Can't be at the meeting tonight? must explain
Can't be at the Special Meeting? Must explain
Didn't make my usual 15 to 20 hours in service? Must explain
Didn't place any magazines? Must explain
Didn't get to the meeting on time? Must explain
Can't be at the hall-cleaning time? Must explain
Can't auxiliary pioneer this April? Must explaIn
And on and on and on and...............
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still dont wish people Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, valentines day, mothers day, etc. However when they tell me I do say "you too" which was a no-no in the BORG. I really still dont see the big deal in any of these celebrations other than commercialism.
I do love New Years eve though. Let it rip!
I am with Princess on the flag salute...to be honest after my experience with the dubs I doubt I will ever be comfortable giving my allegance to any organization again...probably a good thing!
lol as for making excuses, fading cured me of that pretty quick...I mastered the "Because it's what I WANT TO DO, THAT'S WHY" response with a hard look....people just tend to leave me alone after that!
Nice to see you back ozzie!
Having to explain
I didn't catch that in the list... but it is VERY true for me. I'm still learning that I don't have to tell people my business... or WHY I'm doing (or not doing) certain things. If I can't go somewhere with someone, I don't have to give a long detailed explanation justifying my absense... I just have to politely decline.
#13: Other -- Compulsive truth-telling. I was one of those dubs who never padded my service report, never lied to another JW, and never held back any money donated for literature in service.
It's actually inconvenient to live like that in the world sometimes -- not often, but only when you're in a situation where people would use the truth to stab you in the back. I am gradually, oh, so gradually, learning not to volunteer information that is nobody's business.
