Hey, I'm home!
I came home from hospital earlier today. It was great to eat a fried breakfast again!
First off, I want to thank everyone for your good wishes. Chris printed them off everyday and brought them into the hospital for me to read. It really gave me a lift to get so many kind words and thoughts. Thank you, everyone.
I've not had a heart attack. I was borne with a leaky mitral valve however, and this is now causing a few problems for me. Basically, the back pressure of each heart beat causes some pressure back through the valve, which then puts pressure on the atrium. The atrium then becomes somewhat dilated as a result of this back-pressure and affects the nerves that run around it, so that they then trigger in a spasmodic sequence, which causes the heart to beat like a V6 with the ignition leads crossed over. On Wednesday my heart rate went up to 160 so HL carted me off to the hospital.
I'm loaded up with Warfarin to thin the blood so no clots develop, and Amiodorone to slow down the beat of my ticker, which is now running at a steady 72 per minute. I feel OK and have been told I can return to work next week. I have to be careful though of cuts and bruises because of the effects of the Warfarin, so I'll take it all at a steady pace for a while.
All the boys zoomed down from various parts of the country to see me. I was pleased for Chris as it's the first time that she's been on her own in the house and I don't think that she enjoyed the experience much.
I may need to have some repair work done on the mitral valve in the future, but at the moment the medication seems to have sorted things out, so we'll let things settle for a while.
As for enjoying my tipple in the evening..well, as the doctor said, "Everything in moderation!"
Thanks again everyone,
Mike.
