A few yers back, my brother used to go to quick-builds a lot, and he told me that all new halls being built were not to have windows, as they had problems with people throwing rocks in them. That could just be a regional thing, though.

The Huntington , New York Kingdom Hall was built ( circa 1963) with many windows in the main hall, and a beautiful bow window overlooking the front lawn. Originally there was much natural light which made it a very pleasant place to be on a sunny sunday morning. Unfortunately, in the early 1970s, these windows were bricked up due to vandalism.

Several people have reported that windows were removed to prevent vandalism. Were these halls in "bad" neighborhoods?

Perhaps it's symbolic. Afterall, to have a window allows you to see, to explore, to let the mind roam. No windows keeps you symbolically and physically focused on what is happening within the walls. A metaphor itself of the organization.

I was at a meeting in 2 separate neighborhoods where rocks were thrown through the windows. I went to one which was broken into 3 times in 6 months. In both congregations, the windows were finally blocked up. I was reading the other day about a town that had 10 churches systematically broken into. It was the same people targeting only churches. It happens. Blondie
