I'd like to see Kerry or Bush (although neither will do it, much less the latter) say "We need to resolve, as a nation, to end our dependence on foreign oil by the end of this decade."
That would be brilliant, and probably a bigger and more difficult task.
I don't know why I read stuff like this, but I just can't seem to stay away from it.
Dan, about 25 years ago, there was a popular book that outlined how the economic structure of the world would collapse in 20 years. It was very scary and believable.
Well, it didn't happen, and while things are great, it isn't near collapse either. Remember the line in the old Truth book? (maybe it was before your time) "The world will be too dangerous to live in in 15 years". (something like that) The target year was 1975, and it was a quote from a world leader. Here we are 30 years later. The world is dangerous, for sure, but it always was, wasn't it?
Don't worry so much. Things cycle and I don't think we are near a doomsday yet. If ever.

Production vs Consumption - I had previously posted the stats. But for reference here they are again.
Production has not peaked (or if it has we will only know about it after the fact). Consumption did not decline and is scheduled to increase as we bring Asian countries rapidly online eg. really though, do yah really think this is gonna happen? I've been burned so bad I don't trust information that presents something that is so one-sided with conclusions of such doom and with the strong conspiracy theory angle to boot. I believe in human nature more than such a presentation I suppose. Nope, gonna live life to the fullest still.

Mulan, I'm not as depressed about this as I was when I started this thread (which BTW was on a Sunday, the day of the week that I quite often fall into a most dreadful state of melancholy).
But I don't think that "collapse of western civilization" scenarios are unrealistic, even if they haven't come as soon as some (WT) would like.
