Tonight, or last night since its early morning now, I stayed home and watched the annual release of "The Ten Commandments"

I was just wondering, since there was never any real mention of the use of Scribes during Moses day and they were basically put to use after Moses posted all those laws, who was writing all this stuff down every time the Pharaoh said "So let it be written, so let it be done." ?

I don't recall seeing one scribe in that movie!

Moses is in all likelyhood a composite character. Possibly a collective memory of Egyptian hegemony over Palestine and religious reformers. The specific stories are fiction utilizing preexisting mythology and religious polemics.

the so let it be written so let it be done statement is a hollywood addon.

However, the bible is not a good example to look to for Egyptian history. Despite its lack of mentioning scribes...they did exist in ancient egypt. Any culture wherein the general populace could not write had scribes. Some cultures reserved them to the royals and the wealthy. In the case of what you are talking about, without spending a great deal of time lookingg into the subject, I think we all would be very dubious of any claim that the Pharoah carved those stones himself with the glyphs.

    Peaceful,

I've heard that speculation re:Moses before but never seen any factual data to support the conclusion that Moses was not an individual..Curious, do you have anything?

In at least one scene there is a scribe. He's behind Brenner to his right. The guy is kneeling and has a reed and papyrus. If memory serves it's the first court-throneroom scene were the phrase was uttered...and I think there is a scribe one of the other court scenes...

I don't think there is any evidence, outside of the Bible, that Moses is an historical real person either.

God was marking everything down in his photographic memory, you know, the one that he will use to resurrect everyone. Anyway, later when Moses was scribbling down the Pentateuch, God dictated the whole thing.

Thats right. Isn't this secretaries week? I wonder what Moses Got for God? Oh wait, Moses was tossed out and lost his privileges.

I think Egyptians had paper. They squeezed wet grass together and dried it and then wrote on it. Here's a little unknown fact "The uh Egyptians were the first society to have paper shredders after a major River stock fiasco"
