"Fluff can be a good thing"

As I sit here reading new and old posts, catching up since my surgery, I began to think about this thought: "Fluff can be a good thing".

I speak from experience: Raised as a JW and conforming to all those studies of books that I never wanted to study but HAD too, I am feeling a little burnt out from such studies.

I guess because I have recently done research to confirm the "truth" isn't the truth as I learned it as a young girl, I am very turned off to any doctrinal study....Now this could change later...but for now, I am very happy with light hearted posts...and always the newbies or any experiences people have had because of being a JW or anyone who has an interesting experience in life.

How many of you feel this way?

I fully agree with you CB. Being a JW was always so serious. Even if you tried to have fun they found ways to take it away from you.

I think too that being a JW means we don't develop real relationship skills. Our friends are ready-made and based on whether the person is a JW rather than on real compatibility and friendship.

I think the fluff threads help us explore the fun side of ourselves as well as help us develop some of those relationship skills.

And let's face it --- sometimes we really do need to lighten up.

Oh and one other thing - a lot of those so-called fluff threads serve an extremely important service in helping us to get our brains working about so many things that were forbidden. They help us to find out what we like and what we don't like and just plain explore the world outside of the WTS

I was just thinking how little interest "doctrine" has for me. The folks who spend all their time arguing about this word or that phrase just bore me. They sound like a bunch of lawyer larva, (law students), debating who has the clearer thought process. What did mankind do before written scripture? Can't be any worse than they had done since!

So, bring on the fluff! Maverick

Oh I hate the deep doctrinal stuff, I never studied it when I was a witness and I don't want to start now. For me the actions spoke much louder than the words, a personal expirience of an elder abusing his power or most of the stuff on the silent lambs website makes me realize that I was in the wrong place, more than a thousand scriptures. I totally whole heartidly agree with you!

I would never have agreed with you a few months back as I am a fairly serious person usually -- but I have lightened up and I now mainly contribute to fluff threads rather than doctrinal or political ones - so yes FLUFF IS GOOD

I agree, I'm far too serious myself, as a result of my upbringing (not all about JW but other stuff as well).

As far as the doctinal stuff, I'm more like Tuesday on this, it never really was my focus.

Thanks for the reminder Codeblue, we need this!!!
