I have two of his CD's but haven't heard this song. Judging from the long hair, it must be an old song. Azaria

Nether Lands was released in the summer of 1977.

The first time I heard Dan was in 1975. I was listening to WRAS 88.5 Georgia State University's station. Aspen/These Days from the LP Captured Angel was playing. It was so beautiful that I called the station and asked who it was. They told me it was Dan Fogelberg. Fogelberg? What a strange sounding name I thought. I ended up buying the albumn which was great. I then bought Souvenirs which I think is his best LP. When Nether Lands the LP came out in 77, I was studying with JWs. His earlier music was less poppie and more profound.

Dan has an official site now. Here is the link to the his discography and lyrics page. http://danfogelberg.com/lyrics.html If you've only heard his pop hits, but you like them, then treat yourself to his CD: Souvenirs, first. Every song on it is great. It's a classic you'll want in your collection. You'll get a lot for your money. Your local library may have it as well.

<<< A big Dan Fogelberg fan here. Thanks for passing along these very thought-provoking lyrics. As usual, the son of "the leader of the band" is on target.Gopher

You're welcome, Gopher. Do you have any of Dan's CDs, tapes or records? Have you heard this song? If so: what did you think of it?

Thanks Flyin for the beautiful sentiment! I especially liked this part:

Once in a vision I came on some woods
And stood at a fork in the road
My choices were clear yet I froze with the fear
Of not knowing which way to go
Oh, one road was simple acceptance of life
The other road offered sweet peace
    When I made my decision
    My vision became my release

I probably have heard that song before but can't for the life of me remember it now. I'll be looking for it cuz now I would really like to hear it.

    Hugs!

It wasn't a hit song but rather an albumn cut. You might have heard it on a college station or at your friend's party or something. I hope you can find it. I have the tape but found it here on line, too. Our local library has a vast amount of CDs that we can rent for $1 for three weeks. You might try them.

I haven't heard the song whose lyrics you posted here.

But I have the "Phoenix" album. And listened to all of his other stuff on the radio while growing up, beginning with "Part of the Plan".

I missed his concert here in Minnesota about 20 years ago. He refused to play "Run for the Roses" during that show from what a friend told me, even though a fan threw a rose on the stage floor (hint, hint). Maybe he was tired of the song. Anyhow I still think his music hits home.

High Flyin'...thanks for that. I copied n' pasted this out to several of my friends...and to some family that are JW's. I hope it will make them "think."

    I really liked this part:

Oh I want a lover and I want some friends
And I want to live in the sun
And I want to do all the things that I never have done

Sunny bright mornings and pale moonlit nights
    Keep me from feeling alone
Now I'm learning to fly and this freedom is like
    Nothing that I've ever known
Oh I've seen the bottom and I've been on top
But mostly I've lived in between
And where do you go when you get to the end of your dream

If any of you would like the song then PM me with your e-mail addresses or look for it on Kazaa. They do have it.

Yes, Part Of The Plan was played on the radio in 1977. It's from the LP Souvenirs. I was so pleased to hear Dan being played on regular radio. I think Longer and Run For The Roses were a bit poppier than his earlier music. Maybe that's why he didn't play Run For The Roses.

Rabbit, I am so pleased that you found the lyrics so helpful. Since you like the part of the song you quoted as much as that, you really need to hear the music and the intensity of emotion that Dan displays when he sings it. I know it will inspire and strengthen you.

    I absolutely ADORE Dan Fogelberg!

Saw him in concert once and it was just him and his piano. Two hours of heaven!

Have you ever listened to his album "Twin Sons of Different Mothers"? Mostly instrumental, but a couple of songs with lyrics. He is an incredible songwriter.

We had a song from this album sung at our wedding "Since You've Asked." Still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.

Wasn't that the one with Tim Wiesberg? The Power Of Gold.
