Do jw's believe dinosaurs existed?

I remember that teaching, Gaia. I also remember asking my favorite question ("Why?").

I was told that Jehovah no longer needed the dinosaurs once the water canopy surrounding the earth was gone, therefore the abundance of vegetation present in pre-flood times was also gone. God no longer needed the great beasts to consume the vegetation, so he destroyed them in the flood.

It didn't make much sense to me then, either.

It was this very question that led to my exit from JWs.

The teaching of the dubs and maybe even others from the Bible is that animals didn't become carnivorous until after the fall of man. There was then an Awake in the late 80s that said dinosaurs never existed at the same time as humans (this is correct). But then I wrote the WTS and said "why were they violent since Adam hadn't sinned yet?" The answer was non-comittal such as we aren't even that sure they WERE carnivorous, etc.

Then, years later, it just hit me that Gen. 1:30 says all creation ate green vegetation. That has never been true. Then I decided to read some books by some evolutionary scientists themselves.

Actually the watchtower as you know upgrades doctrine like software. The watchtower uses attacks on punctuated equilibrium or monsterism and calls them attacks on evolution. They won't print what they believe, but obviously their version of creation as explained in the Creator book (AKA how to turn an atheist into a JW in one easy read) is "allowing" some people to believe in evolution without the uncertainty. They take the 2 accounts of creation in genesis 1 and 2 effectively declares then full of too much BS (biblical simplification) and throws them out of the window. Then they declare it is unknown what actually happened.

What I find more interesting is how the WTS will obviously declare large portions of the bible a myth then said it symbolically happened if you believe the bible wrong then why try to find another meaning. Also the WTS likes to leave unresolved biblical conflicts hanging with out naming them. Such as all creatures eating vegetables.

Here's another one that irratates me. I believe the animals are perfect since they are un-effected by Adamic Sin so that would mean the 'Food Chain' is eternal.

The Society's comments on Dinos have included that they were likely created during the 5th Creative Day. Even allowing for a 7,000 yr Creative day or using their "thousands of years" statement, what the wts and many other Creationists teach flies in the face of well-established science, which dates the end of the Dino reign at 65 million years ago.

during the fifth creative day there may have been a falling of further belts of the aqueos canopy at the poles

resulting this time in the destruction of animals or creature life by the icy waters. some forms of animal life being wiped out

    which do not exist today.

So says judge rutherford. you can read all about creation page67 the truth shall make you free 1932

According to the Golden Age magazine, dinosaurs are currently living on Venus.

Yep, that's direct from God's channel, folks.

If you ask any 10 year old Witness how long ago the dinasaurs lived, they will tell you " 65 million years ago" (thank you Steven Spielberg!) I'm not kidding. I've asked all kinds of kids in my Hall that question and they ALL come up with the same answer which I think is hilarious seeing at the Borg's official stand is that they lived just a few thousand years before man and they all "died at the flood".

JW science buckles under some fairly mild scrutiny.

They believe that dinosaurs were created sometime in either the 5th or 6th creative day, depending on how you classify them. Since we are now 6,029 years into the seventh day, then dinosaurs cannot be more than 20,000 years old. This is problematic, when viewed against any sort of science.

Then they say that no animals ate meat until after the flood. Dinosaurs became extinct either before or during the flood (remember, these are not my views). So, there could be no such thing as a carnivorous dinosaur. This, too, is problematic.

Then, there are all those pesky fossils....

I?m never going to get the hang of this Bible thingy. Can someone please explain how Genesis 1:30 tells you that all animals were vegetarian at one time? All the on-line Bibles that I have looked at say that God gave all green vegetation to every living thing as food. Nowhere can I find any reference to God forbidding the consumption of anything else.

Does this prohibition appear somewhere else in the Bible? What am I missing?
