No female can gain any official position of authority. They are also not allowed to give talks. They can give a "demonstration" on stage, but can never directly address the audience (Women are forbidden to "teach"... only men can do that).

They can, however, put in lots and lots of hours of door-to-door field service selling their books and other literature. They call this kind of person a "Pioneer".

No not in the JWs - WTBTS -- However, some should be IMHO. The "HIGHEST" they can get is to be a missionary -- or they can be "the wife of" a GB member -- but IMHO that is demeaning because it means they are not a person in their own right but merely "the wife of" somebody

OK, I see where this is going.

Right then, I'll be provocative and say Yes, they can be elders and are indeed filling that role at WTS' Branch offices around the globe.

There are women taking charge of some departments as well as having de facto oversight of administrative by virtue of their husband's position i.e. hubby's a branch committee member and his wife swans around the branch giving little pieces of her own direction.

The WTS will teach that women cannot teach or have oversight and may deny that women are "allowed" oversight but that's not the whole truth, believe me.

An 80-year-old sister in a previous congregatoin made this very point to my husband who agreed with her but said it was not the official doctrine/policy of the WTS.

Actually, the highest position a woman can occupy is being of the anointed. Many JWs still think that each individual anointed has some hotline to God in spite of the official WTS policy.

Many women run things defacto because they write their husbands talks, schedule and get the children ready for family studies, sometimes conducting them w/o the husband, they get the children ready for field serivce helping them prepare a sermon. The sisters make most of the real shepherding calls, checking to see if older people homes are clean, they have food, they get to the doctor, read the publications to them, etc., etc.

But in the end the anointed sister with 60 years faithful service, who has pioneered all that time, who gives wonderful scriptural answers, lives a sermon, is less than the man who was baptized today and barely knows the names of Bible books.

JW women can NEVER be on top. Unless her husband is paralyzed. But I think that?s a rumor because I know lots of JW women who prefer to be on top, they just keep it to themselves.

Women could have the IQ of Einstein, the wisdom of Solomon and the compassion of Jesus, and still have no "position" as they're "only a woman". Men, on the other hand can have the IQ of Forrest Gump, the wisdom of Paris Hilton and the compassion of Adolf Hilter and they can rise to virtually any position within the Borg. Makes perfect sense eh?
