...and I thought you were referring to Louis Armstrong. Boy, do I feel old...

Actually Steve Vai is no slouch either...

You're right - he's probably even better (techinically) than Joe, but...

Something about Satch makes me have to give him the edge...so many of his tunes are so well constructed. He doesen't just 'go off' each and every time...he holds back at lot, for the sake of the song, and the songs are better for it. When he does cut loose, it seems so much more impressive, as a result.

A true musician of our modern times, if there ever was one. The fact that this stuff isn't for mass popular consumption makes it even more special to me. When I listen to Satriani, I feel like I found gold in the backyard.

To me it's more than an edge. I find Vai's music to be unlistenable. Joe is a true artist.

That's a hell of a lineup for a music festival there Xenawarrior!!! *wishing I lived in Texas and not dumb boring Ohio* LOL

yeah I was thinking Louis Armstrong too, but Satriani is awesome, I remember the first time I heard the Surfing with the Alien album. wow, blown away.

    Odrade:

If you liked Surfing, be sure to check out the albums Crystal Planet and Strange Beautiful Music. Surfing was of course his high-water mark, a monster artistic achievement, but he's put out a hell of a lot of good music on other albums too. Oh yeah, his self-titled album is a great one too.

Hubby and I had a Satch song as our first song at our wedding; it was "Always With Me, Always With You". :)

    Starfish,

Always With Me...is a very beautiful song, good choice for wedding.

I think Rubina from his first album and Love Thing from Crystal Planet are his two best "pretty" songs.
