    `this phrase,which evidently was inserted several centuries after John wrote the letter'.

    This was in the latest Wt April 15 or was it the Awake!

    I understand that the Comma Johanneum wasn't in manuscripts prior to the 16th century.

    The WT obviously doesn't check it facts.

    Actually there is no Greek manuscript evidence for this (quite obvious) addition before the 14th century. Yet it probably emerged in the 4th century Latin tradition. Cf. Bruce M. Metzger, A textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament (UBS, 1975):

    The earliest instance of the passage being quoted as part of the actual text of the Epistle is in a fourth century Latin treatise entitled Liber Apologeticus (chap. 4), attributed either to the Spanish heretic Priscillian (died about 385) or to his follower Bishop Instantius. Apparently the gloss arose when the original passage was understood to symbolize the Trinity... an interpretation which may have been written first as a marginal note that afterwards found its way into the text. In the fifth century the gloss was quoted by Latin Fathers in North Africa and Italy as part of the text of the Epistle, and from the sixth century onwards it is found more and more frequently in manuscripts of the Old Latin and of the Vulgate...

    what I find amazing is that this verse is used by trinitarians as a proof for the trinity, and JWs attack it only as an inserted text...but if anyone bothers to READ it, they will see that it says nothing about the trinity at all....the insertion says there are three who bare witness in heaven, the Father, the Word and the spirit, and these three are one.trinitarians say, SEE three are one, that proves the trinity..... but what is the context, what are they ONE in?the context is obvious, they are ONE in the WITNESS they bare, not in being God...as the parallel that there are three on earth who agree in one.....and what is it that these three in heaven and three on earth all agree about? John tells us that it is about Jesus being the son of God.

    so even if this verse is valid and not a spurious addition, it poses no threat to non-trinitarians.

    That is sorta not true some bibles add absolute proof of the trinity you are citing the actual text. That part is not what was "added".

    the part which people say was added says nothing about God.... it only states that three "witnesses" are one [in the witness they bare]

    1 John 5 7 There are three in heaven who prove it is true. They are the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one.

    1 John 5 7 because three are who are testifying [in the heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these -- the three -- are one;

    John 5 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

    1 John 5
    7 In fact, there are three who tell about it.

    Pick the one that is not the trinitarian choice.

    Pick the one that is not the trinitarian choice.

    none of them show any trinity of God, all of them show a trinity of witness...they are ONE not in being God, but in agreement about the testimony their bear...show me where it says they are ONE in any other way.
