We saw the President today

We just got home from visiting friends and family in New York State for 5 days. We spent a few days in Buffalo (dirty city, grungy and depressing) but we did have a great lunch yesterday, of Buffalo Wings at the original restaurant where they first served them. And we saw the President's plane arrive this morning about 40 minutes before we boarded our flight. He was in Buffalo for about an hour to speak somewhere, before he went into NYC. The plane landed right in front of where we were waiting for our flight to board. We took lots of photos, with Dave's big telephoto lens, even saw Bush getting off the plane, but it probably won't show up. CNN was on TV behind us so we knew when it was him deplaning. They closed the airport while Air Force One landed but it opened in about 20 minutes, so we took off on time. It was cool. Huge plane amongst a bunch of tiny jets and 737's. Security was tight and an armed helicopter was circling the airport for an hour. It was BIG, red, and you could see the machine guns.

I'm not a Bush fan, but that plane is pretty neat.

Spring hasn't arrived in Buffalo yet. Not a green thing in site, and no leaves on the trees, and the daffodils are just starting to open. Tulips are budding, but no blooms yet. I was happy to get home to the GREEN Pacific Northwest.

We also saw Niagara Falls. Amazing!!

His father is doing a parachute jump to celebrate his 80th birthday. Wouldn't it be nice if Bush jr attempted a Niagra-falls-in-a-barrel stunt himself?

Mulan.......would love to have been looking through your eyes. Not just for the sights, but at the risk of sounding like a nerd, would love to have seen Air Force One.....and Niagra Falls too.

Out of my window I can see Rochester Castle built in the 12th Century, its pretty impressive and big......but I guess you get used to what you know and lose appreciation for what you have, have alook here at

Still, would love to have seen what you have.

Cool mom. I'd love to see a current AF1. There is an old retired one at The Museum of Flight in Seattle. Used by Johnson and JFK. Pretty neat, you can go inside and look around. Not nearly as groovy and big as the new ones, but pretty cool to look at JFK's AF1.

Sad thing is, since they retired the Concordes, the Museum has pushed the AF1 to the back and put the Concorde in it's place for tours. You can still tour both but kind of sad it got put in the background.

I need to get down there to tour the concorde with my kids this summer.

Ok, this is exactly what is wrong with the office of the presidency, it has gotten too big. This president and the presidents before them have gotten too important, too big for their britches. They fly all around the world and the country with this huge entourage and arsenal acting like they are a god and we must worship them. Well, I'm sick and tired of it, plus they are wasting our money. There is a need for security but there is also a need for humbleness. We don't need the president acting more like a 3rd world dictator every where he goes with a huge army. For instance, other heads of states such as Tony Blair often even fly abroad on a simple leer jet with only a couple body guards, not a whole army. Plus, essentially every president pretty much uses Air Force One as a campaign platform for the whole year leading up to the election, why should we have to pay for this? Everyday, millions of dollars are wasted just so the President can get to D.C. to say Buffalo, pathetic.

And Hillary's use of government planes to get to NY to campaign was all on the up and up?

    wow, what excitement!

We've seen AF1 fly by our place, with at least 4 jets escorting it in the air. Big plane.

Glad to hear you made it home ok. What fun you must have had.
