The ID cards will not be out for another 10 years. The supporters say they will save us from terrorism... what about in those 10 years? Are the terrorists going to just twiddle their thumbs and wait for the government to be ready?! I think the money would be better spent on making sure we *are* safe. The other day a suspected terrorist was released from prison because he was stressed out by prison... I don't support holding people without charge, but that doesn't mean we should be letting dangerous people go: charge them and stick them on remand! People who don't mind ID cards shouldn't mind having CCTV in every room in their house, and in their cars. What have you got to hide?!
Identity Cards ... good or bad idea?

What is your basis for saying that? Without a basis it's a complete and utter load of crap.

I personaly don't mind the idea of a card. I do believe it can help contain (weed out) illegal aliens. When your visa runs out you could be cought easier. If you have nothing to hide, why worry. They already know so much about our habits and whereabouts as it is.

ID Cards are a bad idea... they rob the common man of his privacy while offering no protection from determined chriminals and terrorists who can buy fake ID's on a whim.

But seriously (hope I added enough vowels) for those of you that are extremely concerned about the cards, I am wondering how much of that worry can be attributed to all the crap from years of being told as jws we would all be marked by the government one day and it would also mark the beginning of the great T???
Do they still preach that or have they given up and found had new light about the identification thing?
Isn?t it possible that somewhere in the back of your mind that still lurks causing ?more? then normal uneasiness about carrying cards?

Hi Simon
In my country the 40 Million black South Africans were forced to carry a "pass book". If they were caught without it they were deported to some middle of nowhere hellhole camp and beaten and starved. This was in the glory days of the sick Apartheid era where influx control laws were used as a means to seperate families and stop movement.
Nowadays we all have an ID book. It lets you register to vote for democracy and freedom. We have the freest democratic constitution in the world btw. Everyone is proud to have one ! Ask any of the 22 Million voters in our last election and they'll tell you how much it means to them to have such a book.
It can be a good or an evil thing....just depends on what you want to do with it I suppose .
Nadsam...PROUD FREE DEMOCRATIC VOTER . CONGRATULATIONS PRESIDENT THABO MBEKI ! LONG LIVE NELSON MANDELA FATHER OF US AFRICANS.

No, it isn't - the point of the cards is to make the country more secure... surely terrorists discuss their plans in their homes!
Why wouldn't terrorists be legally in the country, why wouldn't they have been *born* here? Why wouldn't they have a legal ID card?
