Thank you for your post. You expressed, far better than I would have, precisely how I feel.

That's the nicest thing anyone has said to me, all day.
Well, barring what FMZ said to me in IM, but we wont got there...
...besides, it'd only make Gumby jealous! But seriously...

I'm puzzled by the subject of this thread. JW's believe Jesus is the Messiah. Doesn't that make them Christian? Just because they differ from "mainstream" Christian religions doesn't make them non-Christian.... or does it?

Watson:
IMHO they are not.
I guess it really depends on how you define "Christian", but do they even "follow Christ"?They (1) attempt to follow the Father, as exemplified in conduct by Christ.
They (2) also tag "in Jesus name" at the end of prayers.
But what else do they do that is Christian?
Is that sufficient to bear the name "Christian"?
Do they truly evidence that Jesus is their "Lord and King"?
Does their language reflect this (even in doublespeak)?Again, my opinion would be that they sidestep Christ almost entirely.
Even where they directly reference him, it is distorted at least slightly away towards the Father. They certainly know little of "the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ"!
~Rant over~
Edited to add:
And this is coming from someone who has a pretty inclusive idea as to what constitutes a Christian...
(Also, I'm not saying that there are absolutely no Christians in their midst, just that genereally it is not a Christian religion - again IMHO). -

I ditto Little Toe. A Christian is a follower of Christ. Someone who follows his example. Jesus looked in to the eyes of the sore and sick and hungry and lame and rejected. He asked them what they needed. He loved those people. Aside from his prophecies, how many of Christ's stories are expounded in WT materials? How many JW's remember the first commandment, and the second very much like the first? From those two commandments follow all the law and the prophets.
JW's have it backwards, as did the pharisees of Jesus' day. They are concerned about the accurate keeping of the law, and have forgotten the more important things.

I ditto LT and jgnat.
Strangely, I used to argue with JW opposers in the past who would make the claim that the Dubs are not christian. I would say "Of course they're christian!" Looking back, I know I believed it at the time. Perhaps I was a christian then but not in a christian fellowship. Whatever, there's no doubt in my mind now that the JWs are not christian. They claim to be, but then, so do the Mormons. I can well imagine Jesus' words to them, "Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness, for I never knew you!"

Guess I ditto all the rest of 'em, Wat. Just one more thing to add:
Christ, to them, is only the mediator for the 144,000, remember? Christ would argue with that, I believe, since he said that he grants salvation to *all* that believe in him, not just a small number.

Room 215
Best thing to do, or at least what works for some of us, is to strip away all the dross, buy a Bible with the words of Jesus in red and focus on those.
