Remember when I used to regale you with tales of Dub in the pub?

He's still an elder, but has a new occupation. He's playing in a Wurzel style band. Cider drinking country bumpkins! That's him on the right.

Nice guy, pity he's a dub. Still an elder, still giving public talks, still a piss-head!

Could he get away with this in the USA?

Englishman, congregations I've ever been associated with in California and Michigan don't let anyone get away with anything! Except maybe child molestation. But all minor infractions are very closely monitored.

Totally unrelated, I was in England for 3 weeks and completely fell in love with going to the Pub. I'm not even much of a drinker. I just loved the atmosphere. *starts hankering to take a trip to the lovely British Isles*

    *sighs dreamily*

Okay on your question/observation...I know of a CO's wife who is an alcoholic. They're in good standing because she masks it as illness and other things. But she does get drunk nightly. I also know people who aren't so well connected that got drunk once or twice and went on public reproof.

The PO in my last cong. was a guy who liked his booze...every year a group of us went to a wine festival and every year he got really 'happy'. In front of 60-100 JWs. No one ever called him on it...but we all knew it was one standard for him and his friends and another for someone not so 'prominent'.

And they say it's avoidant of politics. *snort*

If you are talking about his outfit, no, he could not get away with it in the States.

Well, maybe the hat...but for sure not that thing around his neck...

lol... looks like Prince has set an precedent making it OK for JWs to be performers (AKA: Objects of Idolatry)

I have known of JWs in bands. As long as they make most of the meetings and do their assignments, no problemo. If they start missing a lot and the elders start having to do their assignments, complaints will be lodged. It depends on how much money they donate too.

Mike, it doesn't count unless he goes to *your* pub. Then he's really in trouble!

In my hometown , an elder friend of ours used to regularly play drums with local bands, on a "Sit in " basis when he was needed. A good man who carried out the full range of elder responsibilities. The only local witness that I would call a friend , also plays regularly in a band , but he is not an appointed man.

Another example of how a miss spent youth can have great advantages later in life , because a young lad would never be allowed to take up music. I have known a couple of talented girls in the classical field who had to give up the violin becauese orchestra practise was "Getting in the way of the truth"

Seeitall, by P.....head I think that E man means that he drinks too much

E Man , reminds me of a gig I attended once to see the original and late lamented Adge Cutler and the Wurzels, (sigh! fond memories)

Julie, he does go to my pub!

He was a twice a day man, but he moved to Bristol last year. Whenever he visits WSM he still calls in, has a few, then puts on his witness hat and goes to the meeting.

He is a remarkably nice guy though. I think he has a sort of "compartmentalised" ability to fit his dub life in with his drinking life in with his "wurzel" style life.
