Yep, I remember that goofy bible very well! I started studying around 1971, and that was the only one they were using then. I remember my mom having a conversation with a local minister in town and he was poking fun of it..........called it the "Green Phantom Bible"........LOL........I think about that now, and find that soooo humorous! He was right! Noone would own up to the horrible translation of it, which takes on interesting meaning now!

This isn't really related to the green Bible thread, but I noticed one (of many) weird things about the NWT. In the book of Matthew, they're calling the baby Jesus an "it". Why do they call Him an "it"?

When I read this topic , the first thing I thought of , was the dinosaur.

I colored mine red, and drew a person being eaten in his mouth. I was a morbid kid huh? But that dinosaur was alot of fun. He was cute wasnt he? lol

Anyone remember the red edition? It came out very briefly in the late '60's or early '70's. I only ever saw one, it was my uncle's. The cover was a little softer than the green, and the paper bunched up more. I think there was a brown one briefly too, another relitive had that one. (No, I'm not confused with the 'new bibles' in black and brown about 1980-82 or so).

Does anyone know why they used green cover material? I was told that green represented everlasting life.

The earliest editions of the NWT were released in installments. I remember looking at one that covered Genesis to Joshua, or whatever it was. I recall seeing tons of footnotes, like the 1984 reference edition, but not as good. Those footnotes disappeared when the entire work was complete.

Yep, I'm old enough to remember the sections of the New World Translation. My dad had them bound in a big black Bible, which he used for every Memorial talk until he died, and which we used to read from at his funeral. I still have my old green Bible, AND a red "pocket size" AND a brown "pocket size." I think they were experimenting with colors, but that green one was downright garish. Used to place them for $1.

:(In actuality, I don't think the WTS writers, or at least some, haven't really given up on the 7,000 year length.)

Like so many other failed WTS doctrines, they've ever-so-quietly given up on this one. And like so many other failed WTS doctrines, they won't admit they've dropped it. Technically speaking, it is still doctrine. In reality, the WTS is counting on the fact that dumb dubs will eventually forget this doctrine. It's been a long while since the society has specifcally mention 7,000 year "creative" days. Of course, science proved that teaching was rubbish generations ago.

I memorized over 2,000 texts from the NWT,it took me 6 intense years of brute force, rote memorizing to achieve my dream...Then i bugged out of the borg.

This Biblical nemonic database has served me well in my counter-cult ministry.Usually,I now quote from the NIV text, but I know the chapter and verse locations form the NWT.

So it wasn't a total waste.

Yes I remember that green bible .......Yuck what a colour for the word of god.

I was glad when they eventually had black ones. It just felt more right in my hand as I was trying to show a householder a scripture. I think many a householder was turned off by this green bible.

    LOL

Hey .. maybe that was a good thing (the yucky colour I mean.). and the WTBTS.. should make a new yucky coloured bible .

Bright yellow.......like a warning to stop light. How about HOT Pink..

    sincerely
